Introduction to Sacred Music & Meditation

Stephan Mikes
Zen Village is presenting the Introduction to Sacred Music & Meditation on Wednesday, December 4 at 7:30 pm.

The ancient science of sound vibrations, Nada Yoga is an exploration of consciousness through the sacred music which originated in Vedic times in India. It has been found to be a healing process on many levels, for the purpose of aligning the physical and subtle bodies with natural vibration, and leading the individual to the highest state of awareness. Stephan Mikes uses the Sitar and the Vedic Music of India to focus the healing elements of sound, producing a state of consciousness which assists in purifying the body and its energy fields and restoring their natural balance. Originating from the Ghandarva Veda, a manual on the healing powers of celestial music, this music is a shared experience of sonic healing, self-realization, and deep meditation.

A lifelong professional musician, composer, producer and sound engineer, Stephan Mikes's involvement with Yoga and sacred music started in 1986 when he was a founding member of "Satsang", one of the earliest Kirtan groups in S. Florida. Stephan is the instructor for this course. He began training in instrumental Nada Yoga with Acharya Roop Verma in 1987, and has shared the stage with icons of Indian Music such as Ravi and Anoushka Shankar and Sach Dev. His background also includes training in Raja Yoga and initiation into Surat Shabd Yoga, the Yoga of Inner Sound, with Sant Darshan Singh.

In the field of commercial music, Stephan has performed with rockstars like Cheap trick and Donovan, and appeared on recordings by Emilio Estefan and Carlos Ponce. His solo performances have been enjoyed by over a million people at hundreds of festivals and concert halls around the world. Here in Miami, the New Times has named Stephan "Best Solo Musician" and "Best Acoustic Musician", while Ft. Lauderdale's XS Magazine awarded him the title "Best New Age Musician".
