Open House Week at MCA
Parents may tour the facilities, see the classrooms and meet the teachers. MCA features no FCAT's and limits homework so that students may pursue interests beyond school such as spots, acting and music. One of MCA's recent graduates is a full scholarship Tennis Player at Michigan and was able to compete and learn her sport while being an honor student in middle and high school. MCA is a 1-12 grade, non-sectarian private school.

As a newbie to Miami with children in the public schools here (and discontent with them), I was giddy when I saw this post thinking MCA was a free charter school. But alas, at $11K/year, we cannot join in on what looks like my dream school--limited homework and activities like music and art?! My child at CGE gets hours of brainless homework. And I know lots of parents complain about the amount that they come home with... My friends whose kids are at West Lab tell me they get art and music and very limited homework so their kids can enjoy family time when they get home and well, be kids. Sad that so much emphasis is on learning how to pass this standardized test and not on critical thinking.
