Citizen's Police Academy

The Miami Police Department is hosting its 17th Citizen’s Police Academy class. The intent is not to produce civilians trained in law enforcement, but to help Miami residents and the private sector better understand the Miami Police Department its philosophy, its goals, and objectives. Our plan is to compose each session of the Academy with a cross section of the community representation to include youth, senior citizens, civic organizations, churches, and the business community.

The Citizen’s Police Academy will be eight weeks in length. Classes will be held in the evening starting September 17, 2013, and every Tuesday thereafter, with 3-hour block of instruction covering different aspects of the Miami Police Department. The hours are from 6 to 9 pm.

History of the Miami Police Department, Community Oriented Policing, Firearms Policies, Patrol Procedures, Traffic Enforcement, The Police Facility, Criminal Investigations, D.A.R.E. Program, Crime Prevention Programs, Special Operations (SWAT, K-9, Mounted Patrol, etc.), Overview of Officer Survival and Tactics, Felony Stops, Defensive Tactics, Deadly Force, Radio Procedures, and Internal Affairs.

To participate in the Citizen’s Police Academy, applicants must pass a Background Check; be eighteen years of age or older; live, work or own a business or property within the City of Miami; or have other legitimate reasons, as determined and approved by the Commander of the Section.

You can apply in person at the Miami Police Department, Community Relations Section 400 NW 2nd Ave. Suite 201, Miami, or visit the nearest NET Service Center (Coconut Grove's is on Mary Street across from the Bank Lot). For additional information, please call Crime Prevention Specialist (C.P.S.) Aileen Rodriguez at 305-603-6090 or fax 305-579-6110. I wonder how seriously MPD actually take schemes like these. I signed up for the COP program (Citizens on Patrol), passed the background check twice. Then never heard from them again despite trying NUMEROUS times to contact Aileen Rodriguez and leaving messages.

If the public are willing to put in their effort, the Police should at least put in their part......

I have to say, that while the first one was amusing, and the second less so, the sequel to Police Academy shot in Miami was THE WORST.

Guttenberg!?!?!?!?!
