Terence Blanchard presents Jazz in Film

Terence Blanchard, two time Grammy Award winner is presenting a concert exploring jazz music in film at an event Sunday, April 7. Jazz in Film at the Frost School of Music at UM Gusman Concert Hall (1314 Miller Drive, Coral Gables) will highlight Blanchard and his quintet and features the Henry Mancini Institute Orchestra.

The musical selections are from 1951 forward, including some of Blanchard's own pieces which were scored for motion pictures. He is known for his work with Spike Lee. Red Tails, released by LucasFilms last year, is his most recent work.


Blanchard is one of the most important musicians, composers and bandleaders of our time.He has also recorded the movie music of Duke Ellington, Quincy Jones, Bernard Herman, Jerry Goldsmith and Andre Previn. His first big breaks came during the early 1980's via jazz icons Lionel Hampton and Art Blakey. He now performs with top players in jazz. 

Tickets cost $20 for adults; $15 for seniors; free for UM students with valid ID, subject to availability on concert night.
