"Tribute to Marilyn Monroe" opens at AC Fine Arts
It was all about the art at the opening reception for the Marilyn Monroe exibit at the AC Fine Arts Gallery last night and I found that quite disappointing only because a Marilyn Monroe look-a-like contest was promised. Don't get me wrong, the art is spectacular and is worth a visit, you can easily spend an hour or so going through all the different incarnations of Marilyn by so many great artists. But the look-alike show was to be the thing.
I was hoping to post so many colorful "Marilyns" today in form of men and women each trying to outdo the other in their Marilyn impersonations. But as I said, the images are striking. Steven Steele, gallery owner, is an excellent host and he knows every piece in the gallery and was quite good at explaining how each one was made to the interested parties.
I hung out with friends and we enjoyed the food and drink and of course the art. There are other pieces in the gallery by other artists, too. Greg Pitts, the photographer was there, his art has been on display for awhile at the gallery. That's an extra plus of going to see Marilyn, you get to see Greg's fine work. And he is always interesting to talk with.
Last night's event was a charity fundraiser for Dress For Success and I would get a good hundred or so people passed through the doors over the course of the night, so they did quite well. But I was still disappointed in that there were no "Marilyns" trolling around the gallery. Some of us could not help thinking that if AnnaMaria was still running the Windisch-Hunt Gallery at the same location, there would have been an overflow of Marilyns and then some, knowing AnnaMaria, Clark Gable and maybe Tony Curtis and others from that era would have popped up.
The “Tribute to Marilyn Monroe” is on exhibit through December 23, 2011. AC Fine Arts Gallery is at 2911 Grand Avenue. For further information, please contact Steven Steele at 305-742-7071 or acposter@acposter.com.
