A lot of "Ice" on a very hot day for Grove Bed Race
It was a hot, but enjoyable day for the Great Grove Bed Race. Celebs Vanilla Ice and Cristy Rice were thrilled to be there and Vanilla Ice loved it so much that he stayed until the very end and took over announcing duties for most of the race! He and announcer Jay Rand, made a great team and worked off each other well. We'll have lots of photos of all the beds tomorrow, but here are today's winners.
For the third year in a row, the UM track team won. They won last year for The Grove Spot, which they did again this year and the year before that they won for the Sandbar Grill, so that's three year's in a row winning.
They also had the fastest speed of the day on their final race with 11.3 seconds being the speed on the 1/8 mile course. This not only gave them First Place in the Men's Division, but also they were the Grand Champions for 2011. That's rapper Vanilla Ice in the center.
Sandbar won First Place in the Ladies' Division, second year in a row.
Our Grove cops, with the Grove-50 bed, won First Place in the Corporate Divison, for the second year in a row -- they ran this year with their new Commander Richard Gentry.
In the other judging categories, Wells Fargo won for "Best Theme."
The Levantate! bed, won "Most Original."
The Miami's Vice City Rollers, the roller derby team, raced the Tinker Tank bed. They came in first for the "Text Your Vote" category, where fans were able to text in their favorite beds all day.
The fire fighters and their Southern Most Fools bed won "Best Engineered" bed and at the very end of the race, there was a fun race between them and the Grove-50 cops. The fire fighters won "Bragging Rights" for that race.
A big favorite was the Puff Dragon boat bed. They won "Most Artistic," well show them racing tomorrow. We'll have a lot of photos of the bed race tomorrow.
