Celebrate the old-fashioned way in Coconut Grove!

Happy 4th of July, today in Coconut Grove there is plenty to do! The activities start at 11 am and end at 10 pm -- it's 11 hours of patriotic fun!

The Barnacle has it's old fashioned picnic starting at 11 am. Lawn games, board games and even kite flying are part of the fun. Live music from Joel Zoss will enhance the decked out in traditional red, white and blue bunting. Bring a picnic or treat yourself to hot dogs, hamburgers, veggie dogs and burgers, popcorn, soft drinks and ice cream available for purchase.Admission to the park on the day of this event is $5; $3 for ages 6-12; children under 6 are free.

The park opens at 9 am with activities from 11 am to 4 pm. Park closes at 5 pm. The Barnacle welcomes Blankets, lawn chairs and picnics, but alcohol and fireworks are not permitted.

The Hot Dog Eating Contest is at 3 pm at CocoWalk. The competitor who eats the most hot dogs in 10 minutes will win the title of Hot Dog Champion and receive a prize package that includes gift certificates from various CocoWalk merchants.
Last year's winners (there was a tie) ate 10, can you eat more?

The
Coconut Hunt is 4 pm Monday, July 4, in front of the Bookstore. A brand new bicycle is first prize, just find the one special coconut and it's yours! The bicycle was generously donated by Regions Bank. There are all sorts of other prizes, too, including a hotel stay, lots of restaurant certificates and many gift certificates for local stores.

The Chamber is holding Fireworks & Food Trucks at Peacock Park starting at 5 pm. Live music will be performed on the stage till 10 pm.

Food trucks on site include not just any food trucks, but award winning food trucks -- so you know the food is the best! They include CheeseMe Mobile, Dim Ssam-a-gogo, Gastropod, Latin Burger & Taco, The Fish Box and ChurroMania.

Other goodies in the park include Fireman Derek’s World Famous Pies, Hooters, Incredible Kettle Corn, Dona Arepa and Snow Caps.

Samuel Adams beer will be sold at various locations in Peacock Park. There is a fun zone for kids and lots to do for the whole family including a bounce house and the ever-popular rock wall.

Fireworks begin about 9:15 pm to celebrate the holiday. The spectacular show is right over the bay, grab a beer and find a spot in the park and enjoy!
