Are you ready for the Coconut Hunt?
The Coconut Hunt is back this July 4th for it's third year! This has turned into quite the popular event each year.
As usual, it works like this: painted coconuts are hidden around Coconut Grove, participants have 45 minutes to find the coconuts, prizes are given in variouis categories. This year, there will not be any wheels allowed in the hunt -- no golf carts, rollerblades, bicycles or anything of the sort. This is a foot hunt only. We want it to be a level playing field for everyone.
The grand prize is a brand new bicycle furnished by our friend Sandy Fernandez-Masciatti at Regions Bank. That's the bike I'm riding above. The winner of this prize will require a certain coconut to be found, so everyone has a chance. Other prizes include hotel stays, restaurant certificates and even art and of course Grove Bucks, which can be spent all around Coconut Grove. Categories will be given out along with the search clues on the day of the event. The clues have already been written, they are quite clever. Thanks Victor Magluilo for that!
The bicycle is in The Bookstore window now. Stop by and check it out!
The Bookstore (3399 Grand Avenue) is the place to be for the start of the hunt. Hunt time is 4 pm, sign up by 3:45 pm please, there will be people on site starting early in the day, for sign-ups. It's free to sign up, anyone may join in! Here's a look at last year's event.
Before the hunt is the fun Hot Dog Eating Contest at CocoWalk, that begins at 3 pm. You can sign up on site for that the day of the event.
