The food fight is just beginning

Today, Ms. Cheezious, the food truck, was out behind Mayfair again, and mobs came out to enjoy lunch, we'll have photos and a story on that tomorrow. Many in line, most in fact, were furious with the City and their new food truck rules. It's a quality of life thing and people feel strongly about it. I ran into one former Village Council member today and he said it best, "It adds character to the area." People like that and apparently are willing to fight City Hall for it.

Looks like a food fight is going to start with the City because of their new food truck regulations. But it was business as usual today. People were talking "recall," I guess that's on people's minds these days, but I don't think the food truck issue is enough to recall City politicians. But either way, a fight is brewing.

The Miami Herald is doing a big story this weekend, one of the reporters called me today to ask who he should speak with in the Grove about this, I sent him to the BID and to a couple of restaurants to get their side of the issue. We know how the public feels so let's hear from those directly affected, which maybe I should be doing, but they are on it now, so I'll link to their story when it's posted.

The restaurant owners I spoke to are interestingly enough, on the fence. They feel that it will hurt business, but in the end, it may help business. Keep in mind that the food trucks are in and out, they don't sell alcohol and that is where the restaurants come in. The food trucks mostly bring people from outside the area, mostly at dinner time, when people have the time to seek the trucks out and time to spend the night out.

They come, enjoy the food and then enjoy the neighborhood, they shop, dine and unwind, they go to the movies and galleries and most importantly, they stop in a restaurant and bar and they enjoy some beer, wine and liquor. Restaurants make more money on liquor sales than food and there is not much of a wait staff needed for drinks. So the once a month or so that the trucks would corral into the Grove would actually help bring business, rather than deter it.
