Lots of laughs at Gifford Lane Art Stroll

art1
The 13th Annual Gifford Lane Art Stroll is Sunday March 6 from noon to 5:00 pm.

Each time this year, the Grove goes back in time to the little old arts village that it once was, sleepy tree-lined Gifford Lane (between Oak and Day) is transformed into a place back in time. Art, music and food take over the street. It's a block party like block parties used to be. Shown here, at last year's event are artists Terry Mulrooney, Lynn Latham, Karen Deilke and Paul Saint Laurent (yesterday was Paul's birthday -- Happy Birthday, Paul!)

Local artists line the block with lots of affordable, colorful art, which hangs on fences and sits on tables in front yards. There are burgers and hot dogs and ribs and drinks for sale. There is live music throughout the day and people dance in the streets. Lots of art sells at this festival, the artists come to sell and the neighbors come to buy.

The Coconut Grove Juggling Exchange will be adding lots of color to the event and the live music acts include: Twisted Willy; Denny Rowand, lead singer from Outta D’ Blues; Solar Dogs; Birds on a Wire; and The Transition Blues Band Unplugged. Additionally, other well-known musicians, including Izzy Buholzer, are expected to drop by and jam.

All of the participating artists give a percentage of their sales to two Grove charities -- this percentage will be added to contributions made by the public and neighbors living on the block. The two benefiting Grove charities are the St. Stephen’s AIDS Ministry and the St. Alban’s Day Care Center in the Village West. Each year, the Art Stroll donates 100% of the proceeds to the charities.

Here is the slide show from last year's event.
