Comfortable Italian food fills the menu at Spartico
The staff was training at Spartico last night, the new trattoria in the lobby bar at the Mayfair Hotel. We managed to snag a Margherita pizza to go. It was delicious. Chef Walter Diliberto and Humberto Diaz greeted us when we arrived. Although they were not open to the public they were quite gracious to everyone who stopped by to see what was going on. Opening night is actually tonight, December 18, at 5 pm.
They offer the usual fare with their own twist. There are salads (caprese, antipasto, mista mista, etc.) and lots of wood fired roman style pizzas, prepared in the brand new wood oven. Along with Margherita, there is are all styles and toppings of veggies and meats. Pizzas start at $10.95.
Classic dishes include Eggplant Parmigiana, Chicken Limone or Parmigiano, Veal Milanese, Filet of Wild Salmon and Tuscan Grilled New York Sirloin. Pasta from the wood oven includes stuffed shells, lasagna, Fettucine Alfredo and spaghetti with different sauces and sides.
There's a large wine list, glasses start at $6, bottles at $27. Dessert consists of Tiramisu, Cannoli, Creme Brulee and more. It's a place with lots of comfort foods.
