Dinner Key shorelines being stabilized

islands
The spoil islands off the shore of Dinner Key Marina have undergone an extensive renovation. The habitat was restored, transorming it from dense exotic vegetation with lots of trash that washed up, into a now functioning native plant community. The islands now support recreation and environmental education activites and also provide a breakwater for the many boats docked nearby.

Approximately 750 feet of eroding shoreline on Island B will be stabalized and about 650 feet of eroding shoreline on Island C. Limestone boulders will be placed along the shoreline to protect the integrity of the upland areas. It will improve water quality in the bay by reducing turbidity and provide habitat and food web support for a variety of marine life.
