Our own version of "Are You Being Served?"
The Mayfair Antique Market is open every Friday, Saturday and Sunday, from 11 am to 6 pm, and we are pleased to announce that while the crew will be doing their Lincoln Road show every other Sunday as the season heats up, they will also be staying in the Grove. So all through the tourist season and beyond, you'll be able to find our friends at their usual place at the Mayfair Promenade -- Niki, Tony, John, Louis, Andre, Frank, Angela, Charlotte and the rest.
We liken the Antique Market to Grace Brother's Department Store, from the old British tv show "Are You Being Served?" There is something for everyone at the large full shop and there are enough characters at the Antique Market to rival Mr. Humphreys and Captain Peacock and Mrs. Slocombe and the rest. And there is always something going on in every corner of the place -- classical music up front, five little dogs running around at the back, someone is getting their hair cut in this corner and someone is buying a multi-thousand dollar bracelet in this corner.
It's a warm friendly place and one of our favorite areas of the market is the "Merv Griffin set" in the back, near the dressing rooms (they sell lots of vintage clothing, so they have a dressing room). It's been called the most civil place in Miami, where the dealers look out for each other and help out each other.
That's John Reubens being introduced to a customer's pet. Pets are always welcome at the Mayfair Antique Market.
Nashaira Hollan of the Ritz Carlton and Andrea Darwell loved the gently worn Armani, Versace and Pucci that Niki Simon-Blacker sells.
