Big Bellies on the street today

big-bellies
We mean these. Part of a recycling program.

The Grove has been selected by the City of Miami to be part of a pilot program on recycling. These Big Bellies were placed out today, for a one day test. They are on the corner of Mary and Grand. The compactors run on solar energy and they will not cost the city or village anything to run and maintain.

The Grove will be the first place in the county to have these. They are mostly out today so that BID Operations Committee members can see how they look. They will be voting on whether to make them a part of the village permanently. It's assumed it will be approved unanimously by the committee at a future meeting.

You can't see here, but on the side of the Big Bellies is advertising. The BID will be in control of that and only local ads would be used on the sides, no ads from outside the area. And the BID's thought process is to use it as we want to use the chalk boards -- to promote Village events. If ads could be slipped in and out of the encasement easily, things like Arva Moore Parks book signing could be placed in for a week and then maybe Snow Days and Gallery Walk, and so on. It would be a great way to promote events and go green at the same time!
