It's like putting lipstick on a pig but it could help

playhouse
The Coconut Grove Playhouse is getting worse and worse. This morning, this was the scene, the wooden facade fell off, exposing the scaffolding behind it, we almost thought it was the start of a new paint job, but it's just decay.

The reason I mention a new paint job is because my friend Sandy, branch manager of Regions bank, has an idea. It's an art project involving the Coconut Grove Playhouse.

She says that every day, she steps outside the bank across the street, and has to look at the drab decrepit building. Her idea is to have local artists paint sections on the ground level. It would be a mural and each artist would do a section. The concept would be like the black info booths being painted.

This is how it might look if artist Eileen Seitz got ahold of it. Her flowery designs would brighten up the drab blue walls and perhaps in doing so, the good karma would bring some change to the dying building.

People could watch the artists at work as they created their pieces along the walls and that side of the Grove would be brightened up a bit.

Coconut Grove Playhouse, LLC is the owner and it would be up to them, but they don't seem to want to make a decision on anything so this project may not be able to take off.

There still is no response from the current board on
the fines slapped on the building from the City, so we don't see them agreeing to this art project any time soon. There is also talk about a guerrilla paint job in the middle of the night, but this project would take more time than a quickie paint job late at night.
