Is the B-Cycle coming to Coconut Grove?

Ben Astorga, Wellness Coordinator for Crispin Porter + Bogusky, in Coconut Grove, is shown here on a B-Cycle, a bike that is part of a community sharing program. It's sort of like the Zip Car that you borrow by picking up and dropping off in various locations throughout a city.

The B-Cycle may be coming to a Grove. We ran into Ben yesterday on Grand Avenue using the bike.

The way it works is that you sign up online or purchase a 24 hour membership at a B-station, then you choose a bike from the station (sort of a tricked out bike rack) and you have the use of the bike. You then return it to any B-station, you don't need to return it back to the same station where you got it.

Crispin Porter + Bogusky, in collaboration with Humana and Trek Bicycle Corp, may be setting up the B-cycle in the Grove. The B-Cycle was installed in Denver on Earth Day and is soon to be installed in San Antonio, Tx.

There is a membership fee and a usage fee, Denver for instance has a 24 hour membership fee of $5 and a weekly fee of $20; the usage fee varies from free for up to 30 minutes, $1.10 for 31 to 60 minutes, $3.30 for 61 to 90 minutes and so on.

Hopefully Coconut Grove will be seeing the B-stations installed soon.
