Proliferation of peacocks

peacock1
Here's Patrick Sessions, taking a photo of Heather Bettner, chair of the Coconut Grove Peacock Tour, as more painted peacocks hit the streets of Coconut Grove yesterday.

peacock2
This peacock, entitled, "Queen of Coconut Grove," by artist Eileen Seitz, was sponsored by the Sessions family for the benefit of the Village Council. It is installed in a prime location, right on the corner of Commodore Plaza and Main Highway at the new Lulu restaurant.

peacock4
LuLu's is painted on the bird. Art imitating life. Lulu is set to open at the end of the month.

peacock5
Penelopeacock, created by artist George Rodez, proudly sits outside The Bookstore at Grand and Virginia. They are the most photographed things in the Grove at the moment. People love them and come up to them to admire them and of course take lots of photos.

peacock6
At left is Valentina Peacock, done by pop artist Ed King, it is located at EMW's office (the little yellow house) at Franklin and Main Highway, it gives a big wave goodbye as people leave the Center Grove; at right is the peacock painted by Fred Hunt called, "Night and Day, You Are the One," which is right at the entrance to the Mayfair Promenade, in front of the Antique Market.

A map of the locations of many of the peacocks may be seen here. It is still in the works, so more locations will be added as the peacocks are added. A printed map will be available all over town soon. Heather is considering adding another 10 perhaps, because people seem to want to sponsor one when they see them on the streets. Contact her at 305-775-0113. There are many available aritsts who are prepared to create a peacock just for you.

And here is the Channel 10 report that reporter Victor Oquendo did the other day. You can even see the back of my bald head in a couple of shots.
