The entire agenda is meaningless. Sarnoff has declared war upon the the council, and unless they declare it back, and start doing something, they might as well fold.

Anon 11:07,

I understand your sentiment. Ironically, more people from Coconut Grove voted in the 2009 Village Council elections than in the 2007 (that is, if my addition skills are still up to 3rd grade par). It is important for residents like you to voice their opinions to the City that you still would like a relevant Village Council to represent your interests.

I agree, the Village Council will only be relevant as long as Marc Sarnoff and the rest of the city officials understand that the CGVC has the backing of the residents and business owners of Coconut Grove. You need to let them know that you support the CGVC and we need to know the issues that you think are important so we can communicate them to the city. I can assure you, I and the rest of this Council are not going anywhere, but we can only be effective if you empower us to be.

What I meant to say is that I think more people voted in the 2009 CGVC elections than people from Coconut Grove (our defined precincts) in the 2007 District 2 Commission race. (If I'm not mistaken).

Seeing the composition of the newly elected Village council, one thing's for sure...
We don't have a lot of "yes" people on there. It's refreshing to know that there's some real independant thinkers on board,
in spite of a certain commissioner trying to marginalize there input and importance. They are duely elected officials who represent "everyones" interests.
What the VC does IS important to "The People" and they deserve respect, and I hope the other "elected city officials" realize and recognize their importance.

I think the VC have a serious problem - it's a bit chicken and egg. People want to see them actually do something, but they claim they can't do anything without the support of the people.

My answer: Just as Stephen said, your election demonstrates that support - you got voted in, you got your title - NOW GO DO SOMETHING WITH IT. Stand up to Sarnoff when he tosses your opinion aside. Put something on record at a city commission meeting - even if its a statement that the commissioner is not listening to the will of the people. Every group from BID, to chamber to the VC voted the same way onn 5am - yet sarnoff went the other. And you all do nothing.

Call the herald. TAke the mic at a city commission meeting, and tell Sarnoff and the city on the record, that he is failing to represent the will of the people.

or don't... that's an option too.

I can only assume that you weren't at the city commissions meeting for the 3am-5am issue when I spoke for 15 munutes presenting the CGVC official position on that issue. Whether you agree with that position or not, I can assure you that I was crystal clear and on the record. See for yourself on the city's website.
That said, it would have been a lot more effective if we had been backed up by a large # of Grovites. If you want the city to listen to us, speak to the Mayor and the Commissioners and let them know that you expect them to give the CGVC the repect and attention that you voted us in for. We have no AUTHORITY to do anything, but we do have the POWER of the Grove if you make it clear to the city.
Thanks

Patrick - see my first comment.

I saw your presentation at the commission, and I thought it was sound. I voted for you, so there's the support and expression to the commision that you're backed by me and voters.

My point is that Sarnoff has said, in not quite so many words, that he doesn't respect the VC, and doesn't give a crap what it says. I am thus suggesting that the VC go after him - in a legal and ethical manner. Demand to have the resolutions respected, and if not, begin work on a recall of our of this power hungry dictator.
