Everything looks delightful! I am very much looking forward to sampling the different menu items. I hear there's an area for children this year, too?
I hope this year is better because last year was very lacking in many areas. I have been to Taste of Chicago, and I would hope one day the Grove can step up their game in a BIG WAY!!
It always amazes me that on this blog people who criticize and say they know/have seen better never give any concrete examples or suggestions.Reminds me of the phrase "put up or shut up"!
I find Taste of the Grove to be kind of expensive. There are always more restaurants I want to sample but can't spend the money to. Are all tasting festivals this way?
Not saying that the restaurants should give the same portions of food for less, but maybe a smaller amount of food that's available for less tickets, so that you can get a better sampling.
The problem with the price is the vendors have to give 1/3 of Sales to Chamber. Actually they take the money when the pay us for the tickets. We still have to pay staff and buy the food as well as the rental fee for the space and all the extras. We as vendors don't make any money(we lose every year), but it is a great way to get people to try our food.
Sounds great - it will evolve over time. I lived in Chicago for 15 years; you can't compare a event like this in it's growing stages in a village the size of the Grove to a long time tradition in a city as big as Chicago. Go, be supportive and if you have productive suggestions on how to make it better, go for it. I have a soft spot for Chicago, but I love the Grove.
All "trade shows" like this are loss leaders in the short term but if you showcase some good food and market accordingly, people will remember your name and hopefully you earn their business in the long run. I do a ton of trade shows for my company and not one is profitable or even close to a break-even.
I find the Taste of the Grove to be somewhat up and down each year. There are always some places that offer good bites at a good value and others that charge more for mediocre food. Hopefully they dont police it as much as they did last year so people can bring their own drinks, etc, without getting hassled.
I'm looking forward to going again this year as it is a nice event and a good excuse to take a walk in the Grove.
