Too bad the police threatened Sandbar with a $15,000 fine if they set off their fireworks like they have for the past 9 years. So much for trying to have fun in the Grove!

Just because it is fun to not be legal - you shouldn't be allowed to do it; just be happy you got away with it for 9 years. The rest of us all have to get permits.

I disagree the Grove businesses may have been dead but the North Grove was jumping. Lots of house parties, neighborhood fireworks, music , great food and great company and fun. No one had to drive or park and this is a big factor. None of our friends want to go anywhere in the grove anymore. Most people can't wait until George's opens in South Miami, great spot and way more to do in the Grove. Movies, bowling, lots of variety of restaurants, bras, clubs happening scene. Why would anyone want to come to the Grove anymore when variety is around the corner.

Jeff:

Then why are many going elsewhere? The same people attend all the events you have listed above. And without attracting new clients the Grove cannot survive. Groveites are fooling themselves if they cannot see this reality. The grove has become mundane and boring. Same old same old. Even all the events you listed above same old same old. People want new and happening.

Grape is doing a great job, but no one else is stepping up to the plate. The BID sucks and is hurting more than helping.

Also all the MPA BS hurts as well.

anon 9:53 PM , are you part of the problem or the solution?
any suggestions for new and happening?

with Respect,
Jeff

Jeff: We have made many suggestions to Bid and MPA all of which have been shut out. Also many suggestions regarding the Glass house, convention center and Kennedy park improvements also which all have been shout down. All to increase people traffic and business all over the Grove. Therefore we have decided to focus our efforts elsewhere. The current regime wants what they want. Not what is good for the people or for the popular vote of what the people want or have requested. Of course we always have a solution to the multitude of problems but when no one listens or implements we give up!

Dear 7:18
As per your claim, South Miami has more
"Movies, bowling, lots of variety of restaurants, bras, clubs happening scene."
The thing is, Sunset Place where the movies and bowling are, is primarily a tween scene, so a great deal of those "bras" you are referring to are bound to be "training bras."

But if it is bars you are referring to, we have some pretty good ones right here in the Grove- offering a lot more variety- from Monty's and Scotty's in the north all the way to Taurus in the South.

Here's a potential money maker for most Grove businesses; slightly decedent. TarJane, short for Tarzan & Jane, ideal for large nightclub(s); Temple or the entire building where Anoka was on Mary, or the entire courtyard and bars/restaurants at Coco Walk. Special permit required (BID), live music, percussions, drum beats, jungle environment, some palm fronds hanging about, some drift wood pieces. The theme is boy meets girl, people who want to meet people dress in TarJane like 10,000BC outfits, hand made or Victoria Secret said they will mfg or costume on line are available. People uncomfortable with such outfits dress normal. Everyone has a number tatooed on shoulder, you see someone the DJ will announce. $1,000 dance contest, $150.00 best male/female outfits. Party starts, say 10:00 PM Friday & Saturdays, the costumed folks eat at the local resturants, have a few drinks and about midnight the band cranks up at Cocowalk and party till the sun comes up. Decadent yes! But people will come from far and wide to see and participate in this----it must be Grove wide, a few additional police, but we have the restaurant and bar space to support a large crowd and the necessary indoor or outdoor venue to accommodate this activity/dancing. Strickly boy meets girl and girl meets boy type environment.

To Jeff- Gee where are you - interesting that you just surfaced.....have you started any new events lately or contributed anything, have you volunteered or helped out at an event or are you just busy complaining...and to all you others who are going to South Miami, don't complaint about the Grove if you don't support it.

I think you should take your idea to whatever community you'd like to destroy. NIMBY.

anon 2:12, if you go to a search engine and type in Tarzan & Jane you'll find many party costume stores sell a lot of these TarJane outfits and a large list of where these parties take place in many, many successful locations---throughout the world. They are very popular and rake in a lot of money. But, how can an honest straight forward boy meets girl event harm a community? How do you think we all got here? You're a prime canidate for this concept----come on admit it! But, then again maybe the thought bothers you slightly.

What about the forgotten "West Grove"

Plenty of empty storefronts available for a reasonable rent.

Maybe the city can grant some money for redevelopment and tax breaks like they did in Winwood and Midtown-Miami

This would help vitalize West Grove that is in great need of commerce & Jobs.

Hey Jeff,
How long do you think The Ivy will last as a "night club" in Cocoanut Grove when they're at a clear and obvious disadvantage having to stop selling alcohol at 2:30am - 2:45am. Why would any real party goers patronize them?
Night clubs and places that sell alcohol are getting murdered thanks to the "General's Grandson". He's the kind of butthole that will do anything just to keep his street quiet.
How do you get around THAT Jeff????
