One last parody for the new year
The group who mocked St. Stephen's (for knocking down the little historic 1912 church) in this year's King Mango Strut, put together a web page with photos of their parade unit. It's here.

I know of two parishioners personally who have stopped going there
and your word verification is Irree?
This was an EXCELLENT dramatic recreation by creative and dedicated Grovites. This type of performance helps to educate the public and the Mango Strut was the perfect venue for it. Thank you for posting this Grapevine.
After reading the Resolution on the Demolition of the Saint Stephen's 1912 Chapel by Miami-Dade Counties Historic Preservation Board at the end of the photo steam on the webpage, there is no doubt that a crime was committed here.
I know that the City of Miami has changed it's demolition permit application process so that this type of crime cannot be committed ever again, but I am shocked to learn that those responsible for illegally destroying the chapel have not been prosecuted.
Lying on a permit application is illegal as is lying to the City Commission and to the Planning and Zoning Board. How can these people be allowed to keep their jobs? Why aren’t they in jail?
But my dismay does not end there. The fact that the 1912 Chapel, the oldest in Miami, built by Commodore Ralph Munore himself, is being replaced by a giant retail building that will be leased to the Gap or other major retailer, so that the church can rake in large profits, is absolutely sickening.
I am also alarmed to learn that Saint Stephen’s architect made a deal with Pastor Willie Allen Faiella and with Saint Stephen’s School director, Silvia Larrauri to lease the second floor of the new retail building on Main Highway for her private architectural office. Only in Miami, and in rogue third world nations, does something this absurd happen.
Those responsible for these crimes are not even from Miami or Coconut Grove. They will likely reap the benefits of big raises and fat retirement packages, and then leave town, never to be seen or heard from again. How can we let our culture and our history be destroyed by outsiders who have no regard for our heritage?
The replica of the historic chapel façade that is currently under construction on Main Highway will serve as a constant reminder of the crimes committed by the church and school and will only bring further shame upon the church, its congregation, the school, its alumni and to the entire Coconut Grove community. I hope that Saint Stephens can somehow muster up some integrity, halt construction of the cheesy replica, and at least try to save face.
Wow! Great pics! As crazy as it sounds, I guess it is true that the Related Group was the project manager for St. Stephen's new buildings. It all makes sense now. Jorge Perez's kids go to school there. We should have expected this!
This is why I refuse to have anything to do with organized religion. I hope the Pastor is fired.
No charges, no firing! Since the new building will accommodate retail for profit. Stands to reason that only the property that the sanctuary occupies should have religious exemption. With this criminal behavior what else are we in for. Possible artist in the St. Stephens art show who paid under the table to be in. All things are possible when your expounding the scriptures.
That girl is always riding in the grove on a bike with no brakes!!! I Love HER!!! Happy B day!!!
Is the State Attorney’s Office pursuing this matter? Are these people being prosecuted? I certainly hope so.
