Meeting called to discuss Grove sexual assaults

Miami Commission Chairman Marc Sarnoff, Police Chief Miguel Exposito, Commander Jorge Martin, and other members of the Miami Police Department will hold an open community meeting tomorrow, November 24, at 7 pm inside the cafeteria of Coconut Grove Elementary at 3351 Matilda Street.

In less than a month, two women have been robbed and sexually assaulted by a masked gunman in the Center Grove residential area. This is the police composite of the suspect.

“There is no higher priority than the safety and security of our citizens. The person or people responsible for these heinous crimes will be brought to justice,” says Commissioner Sarnoff.

The purpose of the meeting is to address questions and concerns regarding the two incidents and raise community awareness. All members of the community are invited to attend.

Similar meetings are planned in other District-2 communities to address crime related issues.

Does anyone know if there is a reward?? Usually someone will "rat" out his friend for some money ... that may be the best chance of catching the sicko before he strikes again. Ladies in the Grove, please be careful until this guy is caught. Guys, be careful too. Who knows what he'll do if confronted.

I hope that at the meeting tonight, a comprehensive plan for cahnge in law enforcement is discussed. There are too many drug deals going down right in front of the bars and restaurants with dealsers running back into the shadows of the night (and in the direction of where the rapes took place) after they occur.
Our Groive should not be drug central. It should not be a place where people feel that they cannot stroll safely and leisurely without being harassed, panhandled, or offered drugs.
If we demand a crackdown on smaller things, like aggressive panhandling, drug dealing, and street harassment, we can take back the Grove and make it a place where people feel comfortable again. I hope that this issue is mentioned tonight by thsoe in a position to do so; we have to stop turning a blind eye to what we all see and experience every day. Zero tolerance.

Anon 1:13 - I have been out in the grove at least twice a week for 7+ years, going from Commodore to cocowalk, repeatedly in a night just to see people and what's going on, and I honestly can say that I don't see drug deals going down.

I actually think that you are part of the Marc's Minions just trying to start trouble and spread lies and fear. Actually, I'm pretty sure I know exactly who you are and that you initials are the reverse of dear commissioners, but I'll leave it at that so you don't flip out and try to get Tom's blog shut down... again.

It sure is dark on the side streets in the Grove. The city should do its job. Light up the streets. Put cops on the beat. Protect the citizens.

I am extremely disappointed that the reward for helping catch the monster(s) responsible for these heinous acts is only set at $1000. When the UM crocodile was killed last year, the reward for information leading to the arrest was $8500.

My heart and sympathy goes out to the two young ladies. Hopefully our police force and community are able to solve these awful crimes.

Surely the $1000 reward for an armed and dangerous rapist in our community is not true!!!!!!!!!! I will call City Hall TODAY about this -- hope many more concerned residents do the same. My heart goes out to the two young ladies -- their lives are changed forever by this twisted freak who apparently is familiar with dark areas and who has an even darker soul. Find him.
