Village Council candidates meet the public

vc2
I have a problem with the Village Council candidates. The problem is, I like them all but I can only vote for nine. Here are the 14 who showed up at last night's forum at the Village of Center Grove (VOCG) meeting. From left, back: David Collins, Patrick Sessions, Liliana Dones, Renita Ross Samuels-Dixon, Kate Callahan, Michelle Niemeyer, David Wells, Will Furry and Javier Gonzalez. In front, from left: Scott Janowitz, Felice Dubin, Stephen Murray, Heather Bettner and Rose Fountain. Missing were Giana Leyva and Adam Weirich.

I will vote for all incumbents, even though I wasn't crazy about some of their decisions in the past, but I feel that they have all done a good job, they all love the Grove, they all have projects in the works, so why take them off their sub-committees and projects now? I also am on other town committees and groups with all of them in one way or another and I see how they are all decent, caring people.

The incumbents are David, Liliana, Michelle, Felice and Adam.

As for the rest of those running, they all gave their take on why they should be elected to Village Council and they all had good reasons, basically, all the same: they love the Grove and that they want to see it thrive and be the best it could be.

A few have already given us their views here in the Grapevine, and hopefully the others will come in soon. Those who sent in summaries are Stephen Murray, Renita Samuels-Dixon, Will Furry and Heather Bettner.
You may want to re-read what they had to say and decide who to vote for that way. Others told me last night that they will send their info soon.

It's a shame this never got any tv coverage, but it's also a shame that while the house was packed last night, most residents did not come out to hear what the candidates had to say.

Well, Grape, I know and respect that you are friendly with and like our incumbents. I read this blog daily and appreciate you giving the candidates a chance to "talk" to those of us with small children, or work schedules, or something else that won't allow us to see the candidates in person.

I have a simple rule that I will follow when I vote next Monday and when I vote in November 2010. Under no circumstances will I vote for an incumbent. Period. And I am a person that usually scrutinizes and evaluates the candidates carefully.

But the plain fact is that things are screwed up. Perhaps the incumbents should have exercised leadership. Maybe they couldn't but that says something, too.

I'm sure a few of the incumbents are good and deserve to be re-elected. I am sure there are many who are not good and will get re-elected.

Just without my vote.

I like the advice I heard last night at the meeting at the Sailing Club, even though there are 9 seats only vote for those people you think will do the best job - you don't need to vote for all 9 if you don't know them. This is not a horse race - don't just pick names randomly. Just vote for your top picks.

Stop right there. Felice and David give their blood to this town. Hope the guy with the flip flops knows he has to dress up a little more if he should get elected - he should have been dressed more respectfully the other night - this is an elected office he is running for.
