Haha, this woman should write for the coconutgrovegrapevine.
Great Blog Diana, too funny. Tracey who you encountered means well. Maybe a little too much smoking something has gone on there.
"another Miami neighborhood famous for its Bohemian feel even though it is now mostly known for the big outdoor mall, Cocowalk, and all of it's Gap, Victoria Secret and Cheesecake Factory glory."
Sounds about right. I also agree with her view of the farmers' market. I've never seen a monopoly farmer's market like it anywhere. It really shouldn't be called a farmers' market but X farm market.
WITH ALL DUE RESPECT THIS LADY IS PROBABLY USED TO BUYING IN A TRUE FARMERS MARKET IN SOUTH AMERICA,,,I SAY GO HOME WERE YOU CAME FROM MS. CAVE...
Perhaps you overlooked that the author of the blog MENTIONED which farmer's markets she was comparing it to. It is fortunate you remain anonymous... If I were you, I would continue to do so - with all due respect, of course.
I completely agree with Ms. Cave. As much as I WISH I liked the Farmer's Market, I don't. I gave it another chance a few Saturdays ago and was reminded why I don't go: One vendor, one line, expensive produce, hard to find pricing, and that one line is long. It should be called "One Farmer Boutique." Perhaps I am spoiled by California, but as the writer mentions, there are a whole heck of a lot of farms here, and that's who I hope to buy from when I go to a "Farmers Market."
The market on Lincoln Road on Sundays is great. Lots of good deals on produce.
People - You all are debating about nothing. This is NOT a "farmers market" (look at wikipedia definition). This is a privately owned 1 business in a temporary rented location. Better comparison would be to a milam or whole foods type place. It ain't a farmers market ! It is a private outdoor temporary 1 day business.Apples vs oranges.Of course what she said may be true or not about this business.
It's absurd to infer that this stuff, closer to junk is fresh. What they don't sell, they place in coolers to store and bring back the same junk week after week until some unsuspecting trusting person purchases month old gargage.
Obviously, I'm not referring to the produce, just the stuff that are wrapped in plastic bags and containers.
I've been shopping at Public at 27th Avenue and Coral Way for about 25 years and go about 3 times weekly to keep our food fresh. Almost everytime I go several people are always stocking fresh produce right off the truck and placing freshly cut meat in the coolers. Publix has many items marked "Green Friendly" or "Organic". There are always many items on sale; so much so that I save about $15.00, on about $60.00 dollars spent. Personally, I've visited the Grove farmers market numerous times, but cannot bring myself to purchase anything ever, just a gut feeling.
People- Once again - IT IS NOT A FARMERS MARKET. Go to Glaser farms website. They call it "Coconut Grove Saturday Organic Market
Presented by Glaser Organic Farms" It is a private 1 day business! There is a big difference !
