Let's put the "open" sign back in the window
They would like to hear from the public, so show up if you want to be heard on the issue. It's at City Hall (3500 Pan American Drive), 7 pm.
There are 17 Village Council candidates up for election in November and before the 5 am discussion, they will have each of the new candidates speak a minute or two so that people can get to know them.
It would be nice to hear as to how it will help business. My take is that people see the Grove as "closed" now and that extra two hours will make a difference. It is perception. It will bring people back at 9 pm, who will have dinner and possibly walk around at 10 pm and possibly buy something in one of the shops and maybe be home by midnight. Not 5 am.
But it's all about perception. We want to be "open for business" again. Apparently CocoWalk is not intersted in the 5 am closings, so they can have their businesses close by 3 am, that is where most of the fights and problems were anyway.

There is another reason why CocoWalk does not want the 5am reinstated... Muvico has a clause in their contract giving them an "out" if the 3am closure where to be extended.
Might ask yourselves why a shopping center, which has a vested interest in boosting retail sales, is against the 5am closing.
And no, it's not because they're "fuddy-duddies".
What ever Muvico wants they must receive. Since the closing of our AMC, I already have noticed a very quiet feeling at Coco Walk. Instead of walking down the block to have dinner and a great movie, we have to get into our car drive to Sunset, fight off the huge amount of kids and try to enjoy our movie then walk over to a local restaurant for a sweet dinner and drinks. Felt bad about not spending my $$$ local.
RE SilviaQuinn2
You are a despicable liar. I guess that you feel you can write sh#@ like that and pass it off as fact.
You're obviously a member of the CGM ( Center Grove Mafia ). Unfortunately for you the Grapvine actually investigates this sort of thing and calls out those of you that deceive to further your own selfish agendas.
Wait. hold on. Sylvia was told this lie to her face on Saturday. I cleared it up with her and she understands. She actually commented in a post above thanking me for clearing it up.
Sylvia is for the 5 am closings. She is on the record for that.
She asked if she should remove the comment here and I told her no. Maybe we should remove it.
Sylvia is not a liar and she is one of the most incredible people you will ever meet. She was mislead on Saturday.
PS. if it wasn't for Sylvia's comment here, I would not have written the article above about the lies going around town.
I heard this lie, too. But when Sylvia posted it, I knew something was up. She should be thanked because we exposed the lies because of her comment.
HOPE the 3 a.m closing remains, it should be earlier!!!
Sarnoff will have no friends on the new Village Council. None.
Please show up to the Village Council meeting on the 15th at 7:00 in the City Hall Commission Chambers to let us know about your position on this issue, whether for or against, especially if you are a RESIDENT and can tell us about the impact (or lack of impact) the 3 am closing rule has made on your life in the Grove.
I can personally say I wasn't bothered by the problems some people say existed with 5 am closings, and I used to run every morning at 5:30 right past Cocowalk and down McFarlane every morning, but don't like that people I know are now driving to South Miami and Brickell to stay out and play, and I am also bothered by the number of our restaurants that are closing, and that you can't go out dancing in the Grove anymore.
If residents who want 5 am closings, or who don't care but want our businesses to be competitive don't come out, the cranky old farts win, the Grove as we know and love it dies, and we end up with a bunch of empty storefronts, or if Marc gets his "vision," a bunch of overpriced restaurants to see and be seen in that close early and will never last in our community. It is SO important you come out and let your feelings be known. The Mayor, the City Manager, and the Commissioners do pay attention to what happens at our meetings and by attending you will make a difference.
Are you guys already dooming Ivy that is coming in because it is an upscale restaurant?
Sincerely, respectfully and please!
What do people do from 3AM to 5AM that they could not have done from 7PM to 3AM?
There is not the slightest implication in my question that infers people have no right(s) to be out and about at these hours.
BUT, is it not true that most people out and about in establishments who serve anything at all are mostly selling alcohol?
This is a sincere two part question. Please respond.
I would add though, what in the hell are you people doing out there at such a hour?
To Jobie - Drinking and eating and having a good time. I work till midnight almost every night. My going out from 1230 - 5 is no different than a 9to5er going out from 5:30 till 10.
Why is it so wrong? why am I and people with schedules like mine so easy to dismiss and talk down to? Why do I feel insulted by so many of these posts saying that I must be a drunk or a criminal to want to be out at that time?
Anon 5:07 Why do certain people equate drinking with having a good time? Can you not have a good time without the alcohol? You will no doubt assume this question indicates that alcohol and good times translates into a negative. I am sincere when I ask and I'll repeat "why do certain people equate alcohol with having a good time"? I ask a simple straight forward question and then you appear to attach the question to something negative. I didn't infer negative, you did; why? And when you can answer honestly, then you'll know why some people prefer the 3:00 AM or even earlier no alcoholic beverages being sold.
And you would be sadly mistaken to think that I drink tea. What do you people do from 3:00 AM to 5:AM that you can't do from 9:PM to 3:AM. If it's that great I might want to come and join in, spend a few bucks, have such a great time----come on, tell me!. Say something intelligent.
Jobie, after listing to all ur comments I think I'm gunna start sniffin glue again.
