Movies in the middle of the street? Maybe

There's talk of putting movies on a closed portion of Virginia Street.

The Women's International Film Festival (WIFF) would run the show maybe once a month, on a Friday night. Couches and chairs would be set up and a large sheet or screen would be placed sort of at the exit of the bookstore, maybe a little further toward the Mayfair Hotel.

Local places would sell food and drinks (and popcorn?) on the street and a portion, maybe 10% of sales would go to the Film Festival. The movies would be free and open to the public.

It's in the talking stages now, but since the cooler weather is coming up, this would be the time to do it. The WIFF had been holding the festival at CocoWalk in the past, but with the theater renovation going on, they'll have to hold their festival elsewhere this year. But they are very interested in the street movies.

Why not, traffic could easily be re-routed. A contract, say, with BID could stipulate if attendance was down to where this turned into a nuisance instead of a positive an escape clause could eject them.

BID, if bad, is only as bad as we allow it to be. If I understand the power structure of BID, we are to a large degree talking about Mr. David Collins. David is no fool and I've spent many hours working beside him----nothing to do with Coconut Grove or BID. Frankly, I dispise gossip and everyone knows that I get a lot of it due to my demenor. Frankly, BID represents the Grove and a lot of money. I've filed numerous pro se law suits in the last 10 years because I had strong feeling about something and thats a lot of work. I suggest that if any person has some proof of some wrong doing by BID they at the very least back it up with something more than an anon comment in the Grape.

This would be awesome for several reasons: to enhance Cocoanut's Village unique image as an Arts-oriented community, support the Film Festival, good for local businesses too, not to mention all of the nice looking Ladies this might bring along. CI

Very true anon 2:15. I was advised by a very successful artist to sell antiques and a lot of beautiful women would present themselves-----and they did and on numerous occasions. None of them liked me and probably likewise. But, eventually I came in contact with a really beautiful personality and we have been married for about 15 years. Hello Coconut Grove, Florida.

If you want to meet nice looking ladies, check out the Mad Men Monday thing at Mayfair.

Hey movie fans,
You might want to consider showing the movies in Peacock Park. There's lots of ground space -and wall space- to spare.

I believe the park is a much better place for outside movies, soft grass, large open space . Why close 1/2 of a dirty street and hang a sheet on the bookstore wall? . Don't understand the interest or motivation of closing that section of Virginia Street and holding events?

The plan is to keep it near the merchants, not in the park where people will not spend money.

Brilliant idea of outdoor movies in the Grove... We are know as a friendly arts community. It sets our Village aside from everyone else in Miami-Dade...Most impostant it brings family, friends and community together.
Popcorn with butter requested please:)
