The buck stops with the Mayor and his Commissioners and City Manager that authorized these exorbitant police and firemen salaries, overtime, health plans and pension funds. Now they are blaming the unions for having a better understanding of the budgetary numbers and keener negotiation skills then their own. This financial crisis was predicted the day after the union contracts where signed. This is no surprise. The only real surprise is that our City agreed to subsidize the Marlins Baseball Stadium, knowing full well that we could not even afford to pay our own city obligations.

Wow he releases this to the public the day before the meeting?

Grapevine, what I mean is that the actual proposed budget (the book, numbers) is here. Of course, correct me if I'm wrong.

I don't like some of the cuts to specific programs. One that is really ridiculous is to the Homeless Programs - and 87% slash to their budget, putting their total to $90,227 for the year. We are seeing increased rates of homelessness as a result of the economy across the entire city, especially here in Coconut Grove, and this is an irresponsible place to cut.

Aside from getting rid of 200 cops. Geez, I'm against the high paid union but I doubt the top exec's will get axed.

Manny, as usual has got it all wrong !! This cuts to the budget should have been made in the first 2 years of his term but instead he squandered, YES squandered any and all positive cash flow by building a BLOATED Bureaucracy. Absolutely worthless Building / Zoning / Planning / Capital Improvements / and many other completely useless Departments !! But hey, when it comes time to slash costs, let us reduce 200 police officers on the street. The safety of the citizens has never been his priority.

Additionally, attacking the unions at the very end of his term just makes it more difficult for the incoming Mayor. It is a political move which furthers cements the fact that he is a political animal ONLY.

Manny is leaving the City with a huge deficit, a myriad of problems, a bloated bureaucratic government and oh yes Miami 21 and a baseball stadium we just cannot afford!! Wow, Manny you Rock !!

Bottom Line !!
Wake Up people and smell the bull that is all around us, Mobilize, Organize, Discuss, Debate, Get Involved !! do something !! if we do nothing, well then I guess we deserve it.
