Woodstock anniversary celebrated in rain
The wind, rain and mud made Peacock Park feel like the real Woodstock 40 years ago. That was the scene last night for the School of Rock's Woodstock celebration in the Grove.
It started off slow, but the hearty souls showed up to party and have fun, many came prepared with large colorful umbrellas and ponchos. Camille and Tristan, above, left, enjoyed the concert and Tristan loved running around in the rain, too. I hung out a bit with the Chamber members at their rum and vodka booth. Willie with Heather (below right), mixed up some nice concoctions with various juices. People started lining up even before the drinks were mixed.
The crowd played in the wet grass, enjoyed the music and ate and drank. Vendors included Jennie and Rosa (above left) from The Grove Store (2759 SW 27 Ave.), the Hard Rock Cafe, Johnny Rockets, Hooters, Smooth King and even Coldstone Creamery had a special booth set up with a marble slab to mix the ice cream flavors.
The bands were incredible they all sounded just like the original 1960s music.
My advantage at all the Grove events, rain or shine are the people, I enjoy hanging with all my friends who do an amazing job putting on the various events around town.

We stayed until the end ( around 11PM) about 300 souls braved the downpour and witnessed some great music from Janis Joplin to Jimi Hendrix and Blood Sweat & Tears.
The students from School of Rock did a wonderful job of recreating
Woodstock in Coconut Grove 2009.
Mud Included!
Well, at any one time there were a hundred or less in the audience...but what do you expect with all the rain?
THe kid bands were well, kids, but they got to be rock stars last night.
Someone came up with about 10 or $15,000 to make this happen. That's about $100 per person. Its a shame we can't have more, simpler, and cheaper concerts in Peacock Park.
See those kids with the hula hoops? They didn't stop for five hours. Put them in the Strut!

Couldn't agree more, a few bands, also with artists painting out there if they want, simple contributions from us, the public, people can bring their own consumables, and a skeleton City crew for minor clean-up. Every month.. why not? CI
Maybe all of you with the bright ideas should show up at a meeting or two. I never see any of you at the meetings.
Grape,
Please let me (us) know when the next meeting is. I would love to participate.
The concert was a great idea, can't help the weather. It's the nature of things, especially in the summer.
It rained at Woodstock.
Meetings, Schmeetings, Mr. Grapevine. Its a no brainer. Your build a simple stage in the park and let people use it... concerts, plays, poetry slams...but no, the CIty needs for you to have a a $12,000 budget, a dozen cops to help spend the $, and ten booths selling useless crap to make this happen.

I Say....
Still need to meet to discuss your proposal. who is gonna build the stage and at what cost?
yep, you need $12,000 or so to meet the city's requirements for police, fire, cleanup, insurance. plus $ for sound & lights etc.
Its a nice idea,lets crunch the #'s.
