Where is the City's 2010 budget?
Many feel that the mayor is bitter about the commission voting down his plans for Miami 21. The two commissioners responsible are both running for mayor in November. Is the current mayor trying to sabotage the new mayor (either Tomás Regalado or Joe Sanchez, both who voted no on the Miami 21 plan and both running for mayor?) I think it is just a matter of a budget shortfall of $118 million and that's a sticky wicket and will take some time to figure out.
Unfortunately the true colors of Mayor Diaz's legacy are finally coming out. And they aren't green (he likes to be known as the "green mayor," has he ever done anything "green?") There isn't even any green in the treasury at this point. It's empty. His legacy is the failure of Miami 21, the deep financial hole he is leaving the city in, the overpaid city salaries and pensions and the overbuilt downtown area, full of empty condos.
I would say, "How the mighty have fallen," but I never felt his administration was mighty.
Public hearings for the proposed budget will be held September 10, and the final budget hearing is scheduled for September 24.

How dare the City of Miami Mayor, City Manager and the three Commissioners that agreed to spend our money to subside the Marline Baseball Stadium. They knew fully well that our own budget was in debt by $118 million. At the very least this behavior is irresponsible and at the worst it is criminal.
Now it seems that our Mayor and his fiscal advisors wish to delay the city budget till September 10th. Could this be a tactical ploy to conceal the true depth of the crisis they have created and wish only release it just before the end of this administration? Apparently this Mayor is following in the footsteps of our last President by leaving an insurmountable mess for the next administration to deal with and try to clean up.

Manny Diaz is responsible for the taxpayers paying $3 bil (or more) for the benefit of the Marlins. Manny even demanded the Marlins get the taxpayer owned Orange Bowl site without paying a dime. Now the public is informed the City is facing a $118 mil deficit? If the City is facing ruin how could Manny give away its money and its assets?
Unless 500 employees including overpaid firemen are fired Manny Diaz's Miami is facing bankruptcy.
Manny and Joe Sanchez demanded the taxpayers give over $3 bil to the privately owned Marlins...
I ask that before you criticize Mayor Diaz that you disclose to all your readers the $479 you received from Tomas Regalado.
Thanks.

jim you are not stupid enough to think i can be bribed? You must be new here. You surely dont't know me but perhaps you would like to meet my attormey. Regalado paid full price legally for an ad. Any time the mayor wants to, I'll accept his ad, too.
Miami Firemen are not overpaid. You should do your research. Only a few top heavy chiefs and captains are overpaid. I am a struggling father of four and I am proud to be a Miami Firefighter. I love this city, born and raised here and you are welcome to checkout my bank statement. I am no where near what those published salaries stated. As a matter of fact My home is in forclosure and I am struggling to pay my bills. But I get up every morning and put a smile on my face and do my job. I serve the citizens of Miami proudly.
