Parking Authority offers special rates
The Miami Parking Authority has partnered with the Coconut Grove Chamber of Commerce to offer parking savings in the Grove for the rest of August:
1) Throughout August, MPA’s Oak Avenue Garage is offering $3 flat-rate parking weeknights after 5 pm as well $3 flat-rate parking all day on Saturday and Sunday.
2) Every weekend in August, on-street parkers in the Grove whose meters have expired will be issued a special “Courtesy Citation” explaining that they have been granted up to one free hour of parking beyond their expiration time, thus avoiding a parking ticket. The Courtesy Citation program will apply to all MPA metered on-street spaces in the Grove.
(Program valid now through August 31, 2009 except for special-event parking.)
“August is a great time to explore the shops, restaurants and bars of Coconut Grove, and attractively priced parking from the Miami Parking Authority is one more incentive to plan a visit,” said Anthony Noboa, president of the Coconut Grove Chamber of Commerce.
I like to think this post here had a lot to do with this.

Great job GRAPE! I have a dumb question- What do you think they consider "weekends"? Friday after 5pm or Saturday and Sunday?
Chamber? B.S. It is the Grape who shamed MPA into doing what was right. Three measley weeks but better than nothing.
This proves once and for all that if you want something done in this town the Grapevine will get it done. Grape for mayor!
The Grape did rant about it but the Chamber did speak directly to MPA last week and got it done..Grape for Mayor !!!!
Congratulations Grape for doing an outstanding job of serving and protecting Coconut Grove. All of us that live, work and care deeply about Coconut Grove, are most appreciative of your many efforts to help benefit our village in so many ways. This latest effort to improve parking will benefit our community for years to come. At least you and Grapevine are assured an honorable legacy. Will this great program be advertised beyond the Coconut Grove Grapevine? Will this great incentive to get folks to the grove go unnoticed?
Funny how the parking authority is trying to straighten up a few months before the election.
