Taking away the charm of the old gas lights

You can almost hear a whimper from the old gas lights as the new, tall and ugly acorn lights go up on Grand Avenue today, taking the place of a much beloved, photographed and a great flag holding Coconut Grove icon.

Oh for God's sake Tom, they don't look bad at all, and if they provide better and cheaper light I'm all for them.

The gas lanterns had a symbolic meaning. Quaint villages like ours feel a need to hold on. It's our nature.
