Screw all of you; I park where I want, for free

car
This is another case of the authorites doing whatever the hell they feel like. We get ticketed if the meter is a few minutes over, they park free on the sidewalk, in the shade! You remember this photo last week. It must be nice to park wherever you damn well please. I'll post the license plate number next time we see it happen.

I saw another city vehicle myself parked illegally today. It was just outside the garage entrance at the front of Cocowalk. The car was directly under the "No Parking" sign. My friend and I just laughed.

I wonder if you get a jaywalking ticket when you cannot walk on the sidewalk because there is a car parked on the sidewalk?

Let's create an online "album of shame" with pics of illegally parked city/county vehicles in the neighborhood. I know you all have seen them - snap a picture! I'm not as talented as Grape with putting things together on the web, but I'll try.

It burns me up every time I go to Milam's and see the car parked in the fire lane screwing up the flow of cars. Last time the cop wasn't even 'patrolling' inside - just sat in the car on his blackberry the whole time I shopped. Shame!

Sometimes, the City of Miami employees can be a problem.

This is typical behavior.

to " a cause for concern " " adam hawkes " etc..Would not a better approach be that when you see one of these problems that concern you, you whip out your trusty cell phone ( we all have them) and call the appropriate agency and voice your concerns. If the offenders are wrong you have your complaint on file if it is repeated. If the practice is condoned - but disruptive or out of place, try to have it changed. This blog is great, but the Grape ain't going to do your job ! Perhaps somebody could list all the correct agencies phone #'s and contact person. Public pressure WILL right the wrong. Blogging and no action aint'gonna cut it !! You are preaching to the converted. Ain't gonna work !!

Better yet take a photo of the license tag number or the car number and send it to the City. I like the idea of the wall of shame.

Yes the parking is a real problem, I was ticketed for being four minutes over. I got to the car just 6 minutes late and the ticket was already sitting there. I just won't be doing my business in the Grove anymore. There are plenty of other competitive businesses elsewhere in Miami with free parking. It really is a shame for the businesses there in the Grove.

anon at 11:50 . If you were ticketed at a individual coin meter -- NO, you were not ticketed for being "4 minutes" over. You were ticketed for not having any money in the meter at the time the meter reader comes around. There is NO WAY any meter reader knows if you are 4 min. 10 min. 1 hr "OVER. If it was a stamped paper form of payment - then what is the "right" amt of minutes you should be allowed overtime 4 min - 5 min - 6 min - 20 min...You run a red light - 4 sec or 4 min later - you run a red light! paranoid ? Don't like it - get a bike.Excuses excuses excuses.Never accountability !

There is actually a 10 to 15 minute grace period. So the parking authority was wrong if you were 4 minutes over.

anon at 4:13 : yes , I remember other discussions around the holidays about this grace period. I am sure someone who blogged about this can list the proper person - phone # to verify this. I am sure it can't be an arbitrary number of minutes, but a specified time - IF this really exists --Then the ticket holder should address this problem in addition to blogging here. If someone cites the regulation and I get a ticket - you are damn sure the first place I will go to is my phone - then court - THEN HERE - to inform you all what to do !! You said the rule exists, so I am sure you verified it yourself ! - give me the facts behind it !! Or is it an urban legend ? Perhaps we need a site like snopes.com - maybe coconutgrovesnopes.com ?
