Keeping Tomás Regalado on the City Commission

In a strange case of politics and laws, the law requires that Tomás Regalado, City Commissioner, right, who is running for Mayor, vacate his commission seat 60 days before the election on November 3.

But in another strange turn, one of his commission colleagues is able to appoint him as his own replacement. It is assumed that Angel Gonzalez will do that, but his rival for Mayor in the upcoming election, Joe Sanchez, says he will also be willing to do the deed in the interest of the City, so as not to have a vacated seat for Regalado's commission district.

He has 10 days to do that after Regalado's resignation (his seat is not officially up until 2012).

I see it as going against "The Secret." If Regalado expects to win, he needs to put that out into the Universe and just "know" that he does not need his commisson seat and he needs to let it go.

I think they are keeping him because the budget is up for Commission right after he is supposed to resign.

Because Joe Sanchez term is already up and Regalado just chose to run because he thinks Miami is going to vote Miami style(hard core Republican) but sorry Regalado ... there's no way we are going back to the days of the banana republic!!

I wanted to vote for Regalado, but he is way too conservative, and when I saw that our "great" commissioner is endorsing him, that tops it off. That's not the kind of candidate I'll support.

There would be a huge mess in district 4 if Regalado was not re-appointed. One being the budget goes up to the Commission. Two being his opponent would have first pick of appointing a interim Commissioner (hes chairman) and the interim would stay in that seat for TWO more years.
You would have to bring in a new staff into the office and a new commissioner who will vote on the cities budget. WEEKS before it goes to the Commission.

So what happens to everyone that has been running in District 4 for the November race?
Also since no election in District 4 the people in Regalado's district which are the strongest vote for him, would not come out to vote.
And I am not making this up, that was the legal recommendation from the city attorney.

So Regalado a person who knows about the budget stays for the budget then resigns before the election. I see no fowl play.

Again I guess I am a Regalado supporter so I am bias.

If his opponent Sanchez even says he will do it I guess everyone is ok with it

Well you could vote for Sanchez and stay with the Manny Diaz regime. Take a look at City salaries and then decide. No brainer here. That would be like having 4 more years of Manny.

He may be a good guy, but he is too old and does not know how to use a computer.

why would anyone vote for Regalado? can anyone please tell me anything great he's proposed. Only time I hear from him is to vote no on any idea that might bring jobs and income to the city. I'd rather vote for my dog than for regalado.

He has proposed many things, however very few sat well with the City Manager and Chairman.

But since you said you rather vote for your dog I doubt you will be convinced either way.

Well, why not name a few of the "many things" Regalado has proposed?

I am just pleased Regalado was independent enough to say no to corruption and stupid deals.

Regalado was instrumental in creating/refurbishing Robert King High Park and Bryant Park. As well as donating 300,000 dollars to Shenandoah Park's pool.

I only know this because I used to work in Parks. Regalado does not have a PR machine talking about all the good. He is more concerned with uncovering things like the Mercy Towers project and more recently the Marlins Stadium debacle.
