It looks like New England after Labor Day

All the U.S. Flags are coming down around town, they really should leave up a few every here and there. It seems so blah now, like New England or the Hamptons after Labor Day, when the summer sun has faded.

Here are a couple of the crew taking down the flags on Commodore Plaza this morning.

I know the 4th of July is over, but maybe some other type thing can add color to the streets. I know large flower pots and maybe flowers hanging from the light poles are in the works and possibly even different type flags, more like fancy banners, are in the works for Commodore Plaza.

The one thing that does need to come down in the large banner announcing July 4th at South Bayshore Drive and Mary Street. That ship already sailed.

Several years ago the MPA had a call to artist to design a banner for The Grove. I was one of six artists 4 of us from the Grove and it was an interesting outcome. The votes were split but in favor of my design. Very simple elegant minimal. We all waited with baited breath and watched how the choice was maneuvered and the last vote which happen to be Monty's in my favor was overridden as if they never heard him. It went to a graphic artist who had knife fork and spoon not original at all but so be it. This has yet to surface. Meanwhile they kept all the entrees are their property.

If you had any feel for the place at all, you'd realize the BEST time in New England is after Labor Day!

Gotta agree with Ms. Niemeyer.
I lived in Woods Hole for a few years and can attest that the local ladies, what few there were, got much friendlier after the summer crowd decamped.

I actually prefer the fall, too, but was trying to paint a picture of the day after Labor Day.

No doubt that the fall is Leaf Peeping time. Very cool nights and cool to mild afternoons. We have a summer home in the White Mts of NH & our tele is always ringing from our friends here in Miami wanting to fly up for a weekend of cool fun.

CI,
Alternately, you can bring it up at every opportunity whether it has anything to do with a particular posting or not.

I would love to see the banners that Anna Maria speaks of. Since this was done through MPA, the BID probably has access to them. Perhaps they could be brought back.
New grove Chamber president Anthony Noboa and I spoke to David Collins of the BID recently while on the street admiring the flags, and mentioned how cool it would be to leave them up all year but have different kinds of emblems on them - Sail the Grove could be the standard for Oct - May, interspersed with different flags for the different events of the year -- Mango Strut, Taste of the Grove, Arts Festival, Earth Day. The US flag could go up for Memorial Day and come down after July 4, then it would be the Bed Race (checkerboard), Madhatter, and so forth. It would be a distinctive alternative to the street pole banners, which are stationary, as these would wave-- further illustrating the liveliness of the village. The banners Anna Maria speaks up could be incorporated into this.

By the way, did you that Goodwill Industries' other gig is supplying flags? They do so for a very economic price, and using would also be helping them further their programs.
