All those 80 cent donations added up

Good news: Thanks to all your generous support, the 80 cents guy got a brand new bicycle.

Bad news: His bike was stolen within a week. Poetic justice? He was still asking for 80 cents for the bus while on his bike, so that wasn't right.

Either way, that stinks, too many bike thieves in the Grove. They work fast. They cut the chain at the bike racks and make off with the bike within seconds.

wow - a Schwinn? Pretty nice bike for a guy that can't afford train fare.....just sayin'.

I recommend using a 5' vinyl coated steel cable and a good quality padlock. Tougher to cut and you can protect more than just your frame+front wheel.

This guy is certainly a full time scammer. I call him a scammer to his face and warn folks not to give him a dime every time I go to the post office.

He upped his asking rate to a dollar last time I saw him. A blight on our community.

If you are in the habit of feeding this guy's habit, you might look into purchasing a book of bus tickets -- then you can tear out one each time you want to give him 80¢ for the bus. The tickets work for anyone - a kid, another panhandler, etc.

I can't really can't stand this guy. He lives out in at the Dinner Key anchorage. I'm pretty certain that he and his friends are responsible for the theft of many things from the anchorage.

They are always drunk and loud out there too.

His bike was most probably stolen back by the original owner.

I used to call the cops on this guy for hanging out in front of the Elementary School drinking alcohol and relieving himself in public. I really think that this guy and several others like him hurt business in the Grove. Think about it...your at a restaurant sitting outside enjoying yourself with your family and this guy walks up and asks you for money. Back in the days the cops used to take em' to the Everglades but now it's a little different. This wouldn't happen if we had cops walking around the Grove like they do in Orlando or New York.

Some drunk guy was trying to steal my bike the other month. It was tied up in front of Coco-Style Lofts. Long story short, invest in cable cutter resistant chain. He was able to cut through the plastic but the woven chain didnt allow him to cut through it.
