Starting to show our red, white and blue

As you drive home from work today, you'll notice that the bunting and flags are starting to go up for the 4th of July. Paul here, is pointing to the bunting that has been up on Grand Avenue for the past month or so, as a test to see how they weather. Guess they are weathering fine because Cesar Carillo from Flag and Banner Co. and his crew are out on South Bayshore Drive and McFarlane Road right now starting the mass installation.

This always gives the Grove such a nice home town feel. I like it because with Facebook and Twitter and YouTube and everything else these days, the red, white and blue colors make the Grove a perfect photo op where we appear all over the internet.

And having these photos weeks before July 4th is sort of like free advertising for our 4th of July day. When people share the pictures and "tag" others in the pictures and say they are in Coconut Grove, that is the best promotion.

I had forgotten this:

"White signifies purity and innocence, Red, hardiness & valour, and Blue, the color of the Chief signifies vigilance, perseverance & justice."

Ironically perhaps, the French flag is blue, white, red (bleu, blanc rouge)

Considering we got democracy from France I don't think the similarities are a mistake.
