No Barriers Festival starts Thursday at Shake-A-Leg
Festival highlights include music, art, film and cultural programs; there will be a special guest appearance by Molly the Pony, an amputee horse with a prosthetic leg. The three-legged pony whose heart-warming story became a parable for life in post-Katrina Louisiana and an endearing children’s book, will bring her own brand of “pony” magic to the festival, a festival where interaction, innovation and inspiration help shift the paradigm of possibility, at Shake-A-Leg, community-based aquatic activities center serving able bodied individuals as well as those with physical, developmental, and economic challenges.
Abandoned by her owners after Hurricane Katrina, the small gray mare was rescued and taken to a farm, where she was later attacked by a pit bull and nearly killed. Inspired by her will to live, Dr. Rustin Moore removed her leg below the knee and fitted her with a prosthetic leg. Bucking conventional wisdom that horses can’t survive on three legs, she walked out of the clinic.

Shake'a'Leg is an awesome group of people. Mostly volunteers, all of them with huge hearts. They've been doing things like this for years. If you walk by, inside the little bay walk any given morning or afternoon, their are doing things, playing the congas or teaching challenged kiddos something extremely cool. Always.
Then it's the Kayaks and the sailing for all. For give them a few bucks and go fishing. Jenny will set you up. Just an awesome place to support and visit.
