New Walgreens is open; Milam's is making changes
At the CVS, they feel that customer service is one cashier for every 15 people. If you need to get in and out fast, this is not the place, prepare to wait a half hour or so to pay for a stick of gum.
Worst customer service in town.
The old Walgreens next to Milam's was getting a bit run down, so now that they have the new store up on the highway, it's a good thing. The folks at Milam's are already out there today with their survey crews, so they should be ready to start their renovation soon.
The Walgreens liquor store closed already at the old location, but a local liquor store will now be squeezed in between the new Milam's and the Home Depot. This is the Grove, can't have too many liquor stores I guess.
But all that being said, if you do need drug store items, the best place in the Grove is the Coconut Grove Pharmacy at 3001 SW 27 Avenue, across from Slice 'N Ice.

the walgreens liquor store closed on the last day of May so for now, i suggest flannigans liquor store until the new liquor store next to milams opens.
CVS is horrible, although, the guy with the long hair/pony tail at CVS on Grand is super nice, friendly and accommodating. I like the coconut Grove Pharmacy, very friendly staff... but the manager of their building was extremely rude to me when i tried parking in a spot i thought was pharmacy parking (they only have a few spots)
We need a new liquor store other than Big Daddy's soon. It is super over priced and I am sad to see the Walgreens liquor store go where they always had something worth buying on sale at a great price. However, i walked by recently and they have not made any progress on opening so who knows how long that will take.
You know, I was really excited about the Coconut Grove Pharmacy opening. I was impressed by their attentiveness at my first visit. I asked for a recommendation on natural supplements to treat PMS (a common issue among 51% of the population). They didn't have anything to offer but promised to order something and call me in a few days. They never did. I will give them one more chance since they carry my favorite line of skincare products (La Roche Posay).
I don't personally know how bad the CVS's customer service is (Walgreens is/was walking distance for me) but I find it hard to believe they could have worse customer service than the Post Office...
Let's hope that the Grove Liquors store opens quick and with good prices. I miss the old one already, and empty storefronts are the worst.
I wish the Coconut Grove pharmacy carried more things. The diversity of high end skin care products is great, I know, I know – one can never have enough scented flavors of $10 French-milled soap. However, their prescription service is outstanding. 12 or so minutes is the longest waited.
Good Luck with that, Walgreens bought my local Pharmacy here in Brooklyn and both my prescription's jumped in price 4 times in 4 month's from $12.99 and $14.99 to almost $40.00 each prescription! I switched over to Costco Pharmacy and now pay $9.99 and $14.99.
the new Walgreens is NOT OPEN yet. I was just there at 4 PM today Thurs. 6/11 and a worker told me they aren't open. He said he didn't know when they are scheduled to open. All the vehicles in the lot are employees and workers.
TO ANON 3:13PM......Where is Cosco Pharmacy located ?
Don't know if they have any Costco's by you in the Grove, Go to costo.com and find out. I'm just telling you what they did to my prescriptions when they took over my local pharmacy.
To Anon 7:42.... The nearest Costco to the Grove is at
8300 Park BLVD, Miami 33126,
There is also one in Kendal.
You do have to be a member to join.
OMG Costco ... that's a BIG BOX!
I made a purchase yesterday at Big Daddy's (JW Black)-- my first liquor purchase since the Walgreens liquor store closed in May. The bottle I bought was $7.00 cheaper than when I purchased at Walgreens. It wasn't "on sale", either. I have to admit I was shocked. I have shopped by Big Daddy's before, but not on a regular basis since I assumed it would be more expensive. As far as my purchase yesterday, that's not the case. I have the Big Daddy's Good Customer card and when it's filled (10 purchases at $50 or more)they will give me dinner for 2 at flanigan's. Since they're right around the corner from me, I think I'll give them my business -- at least until my card is filled.
Big Boxes have their place, just not any place!
I don't have one too close to me, so I order my refill's and pick them up when I'm Visiting my Mother on Saturday's! I'm such a good boy! More free advice: Costco's Kirkland Signature
Columbian coffee in the big brown can is the best coffee I have ever tasted/made and I am a Coffee nut!!
It could be that the liquor store going next to Milams could be owned by Milams since they always had a good wine section in their store and the plan was for them to take over all of that property. I guess we will find out soon enough.
You should update your blog...as of Saturday, this is STILL not open. I can't for the life of me understand why this Walgreens has taken over a year to build and close to 6 weeks to stock! Typically these 'chains' go up in a matter of a couple of months.
I just saw the comment from ANONYMOUS dated June 11,2009 12:09 pm and wanted to respond by saying that we are sorry for the oversight. It is never our intention to ignore any of our customers requests. If you see this, please give the Coconut Grove Pharmacy a call at 305.442.0211 and we will remedy it as soon as possible.
