Muvico theater to be subject at Village Council tonight
One interesting thing on the agenda is an update on the Muvico theater coming to CocoWalk next year. Mia Steirheim, leasing manager of CocoWalk, will speak on this.
It looks like the issue with AMC closing for eight months while Muvico renovates may not be an issue now. Apparently Muvico will leave part of the theater open during renovation, allowing for movies to be shown while they rebuild. We'll find out more tonight at the meeting.
The total closing of the theater had been a pressing issue with Grove merchants who were very concerned about the lack of traffic once the theater closed. Outdoor movies, drive-in movies, retro movies were all being discussed as alternatives. While these can still happen, it's good to know the main theater will still be operating in some capacity.

62k per month??? You're telling me they are going to average 2100 people per day. A bit inflated perhaps?
Anon 3:24,
It's a Miami phenomenon called the "Calle Ocho Effect", named for the utterly bogus claim that the annual Calle Ocho Festival packs 1 million plus visitors into a total land area that would hold 200 thousand, tops.
Muvico came up with the figure based on that fact that these will be the only 4 meg screens in Florida, there will be a full service restaurant and a bowling alley attached. They are factoring all this in.
I wonder which scene in the films at Movico will be most enjoyable to hear the sounds of strikes and spares from the bowling lanes next door. This will be a great oppertunty for an insulation and soundproofing contarctor.
Well since normally the movies stamps for parking the restaurant and bowling alley will most likely do the same which will in fact draw more business to them if their patrons do not have to worry about parking.
Splitsville (Sunset Place) is doing an insane amount of business. On a Weds afternoon 2 weeks ago they had 5 birthday parties at 11:00 am and over 200 kids and adults packed into their bowling alley. Hopefully this bowling alley will offer kids programs and summer programs for kids if they are business savvy.
