Losing one of our cops on the beat
This is sad because not only is he a good guy, he is one of us, and he knows the neighborhood and all the people (good and bad). He has a history, he belongs.
I know that he wants to stay and hopefully someone will come to their senses and keep him around. He was informed just this morning that he has six days and then he gets his new assignment.

This really sucks. We already lost Officers Carpenter and Braga, and now Mesa. So much for "community policing". Officer Mesa may be impolitic, but he is honest and hardworking, and it always gives me a secure feeling when I see him pedaling around the Grove.
It is a sad day, we all knew it would come but we figured because of retirement, not re-assigment. I know him for over all those years, and can honestly say, if we do not fight to try to keep him for the Grove, we have lost again a small part of our identity. Off. Mesa belongs in the Grove, for the good and the bad of our community. The wisdom of our chiefs, we can only guess ...
Has anyone else noticed that all the cops have been replaced and their replacements arent very good. The new cops are very rude and dont seem to care about anything that is going on. If you approach one of them, they make it look like if you're bothering them
Maybe some should start questioning Commander Martin's motives and reasons for doing this. Is this personal? Through the years Ofc. Mesa has proven he has the best interest at heart to want to work with the store owners and residents in the Grove. He knows all the good and the bad. You don't find many Officers caring about being here. He truly enjoys coming to work and takes pride with being here among us in the Grove. He has repeatedly shown numbers in his duties (even more so than the patrol officers and "rookie" officers that the Commander has brought in. So much for "new blood". As it is said, If it's not broken, don't fix it!!! If Mesa goes, I say the Commander should go with him.
How sad. We definitely need officers we feel comfortable with and can go to for advice or help. What is going on? Does good service and a good record warrant this? That is why morale is so low in the police dept. Do a good job and get reassigned.
I hope Commander Martin, or whoever made this decision, will reconsider this transfer. Officer Mesa knows the Grove, its residents, its business owners. He knows who belongs and who does not, and when things are amiss. Community policing is a great thing, and the most important aspect of it is giving officers time to develop the sort of knowledge and relationships Officer Mesa has in the Grove, and then allowing them to use that knowledge to the community's benefit.
It's unbelievable that Commander Martin has made the decision of reassigning a fine officer that has been working in the Grove for 15 years for no apparent reason.Officer Mesa is part of are family here at the Grove. There should be some type of consideration reference his reassignment. WHAT IS GOING ON COMMANDER?
The smae thing hapened with Braga! What is going on? Maybe Martin should go?
I wonder if the commander is going to kick out that psycho sargent from the pst team. I came across those guys before. He's an indictment waiting to happen.
What kind of a Commander makes a decision like such without first asking the Coconut Grove Community?I believe it is not only up to him.I think the that the Coconut Grove Community should have a say so.
The psycho Sgt is going to stay because he is just simply bringing the numbers to the Commander. On the other hand I agree with the previous anonymous, it should not be only up to the Commander to make that kind of decision it should also involve the Community and this is the time to star doing something and start the process of getting rid of Commander Martin. To finalize I would say that getting rid of Ofc Meza was personal, he probably did not dance to Martin's melody!!!!
Officer Mesa has been a Beat Officer in the Grove for 12 years, if not longer. He is well liked, respected and is a hard worker. He has also lasted longer than any Commander I know. At least a half a dozen or more names and faces I don't even remember. That should speak for itself.
Officer Mesa might not dance to Commander Martin's melody, but he has been successful in dancing to the beat of his own drum for all these years!
Isn't it possible that they want someone with his experience someplace else to help train, take on more responsibility, etc?
Maybe it's a promotion, maybe he can't take the rigors of being on a beat anymore, maybe it's any number of things other.
Why is everything always personal and an attack on the "Grove?"
And I don't even know how to respond to the comment, "He knows who belongs and who does not."
I've dealt with Officer Mesa for the majority of his time here in Coconut Grove. First as a teenager being told not to loiter at Joffrey's, later as a merchant who needed the response of my local police. And in all those years in between Officer Mesa has been one of the few constants in the Grove. He knows the residents, the businesses and their owners, the area, and every one of our more "interesting" residents. I feel he has done an exceptional job over the years and feel that his being here this long should be some indication of his dedication and service. Coconut Grove is losing an amazing beat cop, and we will be worse for it.
Good Riddence.

You spelled Riddance wrong!
the problem here is that its getting close to the end of the yeae and the Commander is scared he is not going to get his bonus so all he is doing is getting rid of his good officers that know the area and replacing them with physco's to make more arrest, like the sgt and his loud mouth cuban counter part that use to be the beat officer not that long ago. thank god he is gone if not we all would of had to have gotten a part time job to pay for his parkinh tickets.
Why is Officer Mesa writing on this blog in third person? The business owners in the Village are happy to see you gone. We need an Officer that actually enforces the law. You're the same guy that parks your police car in handicap spots. You walk by the same panhandlers day in/day out in the Village and do NOTHING to stop them. My business is going down the tubes with all these undesireables around while you chug coffee at the glass house with your feet on the desk.
We might have not liked the fat cop alot. But, when I glanced at his cop car he always had 5 thugs handcuffed in the back instead of letting them wander to break into a car or rob a potential customer.
Being a merchant in the Grove for 10 years I have known Offc.Mesa to be an integral part of this community and has responded quickly to nuissances at our establishment,to judge someone because you personally do not care for this person is unjust. As a merchant I can vouch for his visibility in our community, where are the other cops?
Well, I'm a business owner in the Grove, Mr. Gonzalez, and have been for 10 years. I am very sad to see Officer Mesa go, because I appreciated his professionalism and discretion.
Please don't speak for anyone but yourself.
Mr. Gonzalez, what business do you represent that was directly hurt by Off Mesa's supossed inabillity to do community policing? or are you not Mr. Gonzalez?
