Bahamian Goombay Festival starts this week

The Goombay Festival starts this week. Everyone knows of Carnival that takes place on Saturday, but the event actually starts tomorrow with the Junkanoo and Board Members at Bice Bistro at CocoWalk, which is from 5 to 8 pm.

On Thursday, there is a clean up at the Coconut Grove Cemetery at noon and then a Pirate's Reception at Chili's from 6 pm to 10 pm.Friday is the official kick off of the 33rd Goombay Festival with a private party at Peacock Park. And on Saturday, is the great street festival with the junkanoo parade and all the food, music and booths. That's on Grand Avenue from Douglas to Margaret Street from noon to 8 pm.

A gospel service is offered on Sunday and then there is the Goombay Gospel Feast. All the details are at the Goombay website
here.

did anyone see the word goombay on the national spelling bee finals. I was so happy for the grove to get a little shout out. Incidently the kid spelled it right.

There didn't seem to be anybody from the Goombay at Bice Bistro tonight.

I went there to do a preview on the festival for NBCMiami.com. I was hoping to do some interviews.

The host didn't have a clue nor the manager had a clue that any function was supposed to take place tonight.

I was there at 5:45 pm. I walked around and there was still nobody there at 6:10 pm
