Painting pals getting ready for Travel Industry Pow Wow
The travel Pow Wow is coming to the Grove May 18. That is when thousands of travel industry people will descend on the Grove for one night of wining, dining and partying. We are planning on showing them the best time ever, so that they send their clients here, and because we actually like to wine, dine and party in the Grove!
AnnaMaria and the girls (Rosie Brown, Monique Lassooij and Linda Apriletti) are getting souvenirs ready for the crowds -- painted Coconut Grove coconuts. The perfect souvenir.
We don't have many souvenirs for Grove visitors, which is a shame. Paul has been selling the Coconut Grove sunglasses I designed, but there's not much else.
I am hoping the BID or Chamber or someone buys a few thousand of the sunglasses wholesale so as to have something to give the visitors -- something they will take home and remember the Grove with. These coconuts are a great idea as well as the sunglasses. Both say "Coconut Grove". Literally.

Tighten that screw, will ya!!
That was bothering me too. The screw in the glasses. :)
Actually, the loose screw is a neat bit of accidental commentary about the Grove...put the nut back in, loosen a screw.
The sunglasses might've been a good idea in the 90's, (I remember my grandma once sported a pair like these) but who really wears them now? I live here and have never seen even a tourist wearing these... i think the souveniers should be something that can accessorize crowds of all ages ... maybe a recycle bag that could be used while shopping around the Grove that then could be used to carry their groceries back home... you know??? a "portable billboard" so to speak... (everyone claiming to be "green" these days likes carrying them around)
briana, that is a GREAT idea. Those "green" shopping bags are so trendy right now.
They are trendy and everyone is using them! If ever the idea was to come to life, I would love to help with the design (my beau is a GREAT and CREATIVE graphic designer!) and I'd definetly sport one to the dog park, grocery, ANYWHERE!
i remember painting coconuts... it was great fun... Jerry
