Looks like it's over for Anokha; no more Indian cuisine

It looks like Anokha is finally gone. They tried their best but never made it after their move.

I ran into Jobie this morning, taking his art; they had warned him to take it if he didn't want it seized by whomever does asset-seizing.

In my own humble opinion, they should never have left Commodore Plaza where they were very successful. Ironically, they wanted to expand and after they moved to Virginia Street and the larger location, the gym next door to the old location became available and they could have easily just broken the wall and added the space next door, rather than move to an unknown and obscure location.

I was at a wedding once and overheard someone speaking at another table. They said their favorite thing about coming to Miami was going to Anokha, they said it was one of the best Indian places in the country.

Another ironic twist is that Jacobs in the Grove, which took over the Anokha spot on Commodore, is now a pizza place, and from what I hear, they are trying to find a buyer or renter for that location.

So I suppose the whole lesson was to be content. No one knew that hard economic times were coming and no one knew that the place would be available next door on Commodore Plaza, but if the stars were all aligned and the planets were in the right order, Anokha would still be operating on Commodore, with the expanded space next door and the Grove would be better for it.

Where was Atena (bottom left) our crystal and card reader at the time? Or Ellen (center) our clairvoyant? Or Nicky (right), the card reader? They should have gotten their fix on the starts and moon and future before they made their drastic move.

Like how I got four of our funky and fun village people in one post? Jobie, Atena, Ellen and Nicky.
Editor's note: I am happy to report that Anokha is still here. Lots of rumors got mixed up and turned around and this story came out, but truth be told, they are still here. You may read Nick's letter here. He is a managing partner of Anokha.

That sucks - Anokha was one of my favorite Grove restaurants.

thats too bad, nick and company at anokha were great people, and served great food too.

i hope something comes in that utilizes the enormous space better. I also hope they can salvage the restaurant and maybe move to a smaller venue. food was delicious.
