Hundreds show up for Facebook Developer Garage

facebook1
Lots of Facebook fans showed up this morning for the Miami Facebook Developer Garage at the Museum of Science. Dunkin' Donuts learned of it on Twitter and they sent over doughnuts. Intel sponsored the event and Brian Breslin, below, was the main man.

I'm still trying to figure out the premise of these events, you know, BarCamp and RefreshMiami and this Garage thing -- how do people make a living out of social media? How do you exist on Twittering or Facebooking?

Guess I need to go to more seminars to figure it out.

A few of us are trying to make Coconut Grove a techie neighborhood - we would love to have RefreshMiami meet her monthly and would love to have other seminars and events here. Plus, it would be very cool to have techies move in and live and work here.

One of the best things about being a techie (some, anyway) is that you can work anywhere there is a reliable high-speed broadband connection and electricity.

Technology and the Grove - that's something that makes sense. Miami could use this, and so could we.

Thanks for the write up Grape! The museum people were awesome, very nice to all of us geeks even if we were using all their wifi bandwidth :-)

The event was streamed, and we will be posting most of the videos online when we can get around to editing them
in total it was about 175-185 people who came throughout the day. Apparently many were turned away because of the rain, and I-95 having several hour traffic delays heading south this morning.

We're definitely going to do another event for marketers/small business owners on how to use facebook. Maybe we'll do it in the grove as well.

p.s. i wish you guys had used more flattering pictures of me :-)

Brian, don't worry, i look like such a dork with my coffee cup... then again, i got there early to avoid longer lines... guess i needed the coffee after all- at least i redeemed myself in helping with giving out the raffle tickets. The
presentation was great and meeting a whole bunch of new people was interesting!
