Grand plans going bust?

for-sale
Why is all this land on Grand Avenue from Margaret to Douglas for sale?

What happened the big Grand Avenue Development? Is it a bust?

What happened to the people that were displaced?

Why not put in a Publix on the site since it's already been zoned for this sort of development? Even better a Sweet Bay or Trader Joe's!

It's funny that the guy who is listed on the sign does not return his calls.

Welcome to the no call back world of Miami Real estate. Try finding a broker or agent to answer their cell phones on the Weekends. On the boat or out on the Beachs, best place to catch em.

Oh where oh where did all the money go, oh where oh where can it be.

Trader Joes! or Whole Foods or a Target! Something to bring jobs and add to the area where we can walk or bike to shop. Oh yes please make sure there is a bike rack for us to park our bikes as we shop.

wow im a west grove resident and i think this speaks to all the reasons the people of west grove were against and sceptical of development.it was a worry that the plans would not be fulfilled and that they would displace local families in order to capitalize.they tore down homes and made the neighborhood look worse, every other house is a lot or abandoned building now and the property value of people that were considering selling there homes will now no doubt get considerebly less due to the fact that there is a lot there. i think temporarily they should find uses for all those lots.maybe organic gardens that run till the landis sold or needed,it would definetly be beter then unkept property

The properties you mentioned are further west than the Grove Pointe development.

These signs actually start at the Farmer's Market and Basil and go west from there.

I heard the 2 main people you all know lost their shirts in this economic downturn. Madoff, Stanford or whoever now Grand is left looking worse than ever and with many great families displaced.

They were greedy and this is the payoff. The new Grove motto seems to be rip it down build something new and piss off everyone that lives or lived here. No RESPECT!

I begged in this very blog that the big displacement of people in affordable housing be stopped. When are we going to stop believing what the developers tell us? Think about who was behind this project next time you go to the polls. (Maybe we could move those black boxes to those empty lots.) What was that quote? "Gentrification is the inverse of Discrimination" Anyone remember who said that?

Michelle what rock have you been living under these days? Politics has clouded your judgement.

Sorry Grape, and Anon 11:59, who questioned what rock I've been living under. I was thinking Margaret was further west. There are lots of properties west of the Grove Pointe project, going all the way to Douglas, that are investor owned.

As for what rock I'm living under, I was in a nasty car accident on May 8, a little tangle with a cab speeding like a bat out of hell backwards down Virginia Street. After four days at Mercy Hospital for my broken ribs and partly collapsed lung, I am back but at less than full capacity. Please forgive my mistake, Anon, I try to have my facts right, but I was wrong on the location of these properties. I'd blame the pain meds but that would be lame.

I don't understand. Developers are terrible if they build AND also terrible if they don't???

The grove mentality seems to be to criticize the risk takers yet never stepping up to take any risks themselves.

I would guess that the developer would love to put in a market or the whole project even. I bet they can't get financing any more and it is a shame.

I am still angry that we never got the beautiful architect built home depot and new Milams.

The grove mob is going to keep us all in the morass!!!

Developers are NOT terrible if they build AND also NOT terrible if they don’t build! Developers are just doing their job, taking big risks and trying to make big profits. The problem is that some of our local leaders change the zoning to accommodate their developer pals, with the expectation of more profits for them and greater taxes for our city, at the detriment of our residence, quality of life and community. Latin American Cafeteria was a wonderful restaurant located on the corner of US1 and 27th Ave. It served the needs of our neighborhood well for many years. Then some commissioners voted to change the zoning for one more unnecessary condo project. The result was that we lost a wonderful, affordable restaurant and gained an empty eyesore of a lot since no condo was ever built. Lots of money was invested to improve Grand Ave with the expectation that new business would move in and improve the Village West District. The street was torn up, reduced to one lane in each direction, sidewalks where widened for future outdoor restaurant and café seating and promises where made to bring in Publix. The result was that many folks had to be displaced, traffic was obstructed for months, there are no lanes for the busses to pull over thus blocking traffic and no effort was made to take advantage if this once in a lifetime construction opportunity to place telephone lines and FPL lines underground. The lots now sit empty, Publix has not moved in, and the promises made to our community by our leaders and developers have once again been shattered to the detriment of our neighborhood. The problem was the economy collapsed and the developers could not get the financing ,,it was not their fault it would have been a good addition for the Grove but credit dried up......I was hoping that they could have waited it out and built later ,,,

I think a Wegman's Supermarket would be fantastic
to replace the abandoned lots along Grand Avenue!

We are getting a bigger more improved Milams designed by the same architect that did the plans for Home Depot. Be grateful that we saved the grocery store - original plans called for it to be demolished. HD is not doing well at all so you would have been left with a another big empty business. HD should thank the Grove for not letting them spend all that money.
