Sekai on Main Highway
Sekai is the new pan-Asian/Sushi restaurant at 3480 Main Highway (the old Senor Frogs).
That's wrestler Paul Wight, The Big Show, front and center, on a busy weekend night. Sekai is very popular in the few short weeks that it has been open.
A few appetizers (there are many) are:
Edamame: $5.00 / Wonton soup: $7.00 / Egg drop soup: $4.00 / Tuna rolls: $3.00
For the lunch menu, they are a little less in price.
Everything is made from scratch, even the dough for the dumplings, even their soups.
Sushi: is $3.00 per piece. Rolls are $6.00 to $12.00
The lunch menu includes:
Braised kurobuta pork ribs with sweet potato fries: $ 15.00
New York strip steak with butter poached shiitake mushrooms and roasted potatoes: $17.00
Black Cod with miso and sticky rice risotto with sweet melon and chinese sausage: $14.00
Pad Thai with shrimp and chicken: $14.00
Wok charred beef tips with veggies: $12.00
Desserts (all made right on premises):
Strawberry shortcake cupcake: $7.00
Warm doughnut holes: $6.00
Mango Sorbet: $3.00
This is just a tiny sampling of their menu. The menu is large and has something for everyone. They have a full bar and an incredibly friendly staff. They accept Code 33. For more info: 305-448-0990.

Thats funny, I was looking at the picture and said to myself, "That guy kinda looks like the Big Show", then I read the post and, sure enough, it was him. Thanks for this profile. Ive been meaning to check this place out. Do they have a bar that you can eat at or is it tables only? Nice to see they are doing lunch and dinner now too. Are the dinner prices/dishes the same?
PS - Its "eGG" drop soup, not EDD haha!
The menu looks good and from what I heard so far service is very good.. I wonder why they chose such a drab color scheme for the awnings. It would be fun if they did it in something more tropical-- ditto for Greenstreets. Both restaurants look like a recesss peanut butter cup.
The dinner menu is a little more expensive. You can eat at the bar, there is a big wrap around bar. You can see it here.
I was enthusiastic about trying this restaurant (always excited about new places in the Grove)...but was not happy after our visit last weekend. I thought the service was excrutiangly SLOW (when there were only 4 tables or so to begin with... there were more staff than patrons and still they were SO slow). The first two appetizer choices we wanted were not available. Then, when we went to use the Miami Herald coupon for one free dessert per table, the waitress conveniently mentioned that the first 2 desserts (the most expensive on the menu) were not available either....coincidence? Don't advertise a free dessert and then tell me that 2 out of 4 are not available. The food itself (that we got) was pretty good I must say! The dessert we got was terrible though...
So, overall, I probably would not go again unfortunately.
Anon above - Im not defending this particular restaurant in particular but those are the pains of going to a restaurant that has become somewhat popular right off the bat. There are always going to be situations of slow service, uninformed waitstaff, and unavailable items with a new restaurant. I usually wait a month to try out a new place just because of that. Fortunately, this usually happens to restaurants that have good food. 8oz Burger Bar on SoBe is experiencing the same problem yet people return because the food is great. Just wait it out and give it a retry in a few weeks. If your experience is the same, then by all means climb back on top of your soapbox.
Went in for dinner with friends and decided to sit at the bar.If not for the wonderful service and great drinks made by michael the bartender my visit would have been a complete disaster!!
