Restaurant Reality Check

Pommes and Pane Café

Continuing in our series, let's take a look at Olav's Pommes and Pane Café (at Virginia and Florida). Most of Olva's clients are locals mixed with some hotel guests from the Mayfair across the street.

Random prices there are as follows:

Colada is $1.75
Cappucino/Café con leche: $2.55
Tea (breakfast, Earl Gray or Green tea): $1.45

Beer and wine are priced on the menu.
Domestic beer is $3.00 a bottle
Import bottle is $4.25
Domestic draft is $2.00 for 11 oz. size and $2.75 for 14 oz. size
Wine by the glass (red or white) is $4.50

Chili con Carne with onions and crackers: $4.25
Hot Dog from the grill: $3.00
2 Eggs, bacon and toast is $5.25 (they add a little lettuce and tomato as garnish, I always love that touch. They also have lots of breakfast items).

I was told by someone who knows the Grove that Olav has the best fries, they have Pommes Frites on the menu for $2.50, I assume those are the fries.

BLT is $4.75
Meatball sandwich or hogie: $5.75
Chunky tuna salad sandwich or hogie: $5.50
Classic Reuben: $6.75
Roast Beef: $5.75
Chicken breast sandwich: $7.25

They also have happy hour daily and daily specials. Pricing looks terrific at Olav. Those are just a few random items from the large menu. They accept call in orders for take out at 305-774-6696.

They are open 7 am to 9 pm, Mon.-Wed; 7 am to 12 am Thurs. & Fri., 8 am to 10 pm Sat. and closed Sunday, although Olav does open for special Sunday occasions like the recent BarCamp and the King Mango Strut and things like that.

I like this restaurant reality check a lot.

Now only if the BIC could list menus and websites for all of the restaurants on their website.

The BIC does list restaurants and all the websites that are available. There is no way to keep up with the constantly changing menus. I am working on a program where the restaurants can go in themselves and make changes at will and I'll display all menus on the Grapevine. I just need to find the right program for this.

i wish the breakfast sandwiches were cheaper ($5 instead of $6.50) because they are my favorite items on their menu

Sandbar used to have the best fries back when they put that lime seasoning on them. That was the only place Id ever had that at and I loved it. Really went with the tacos on Monday's 1/2 price taco night. For some reason they dont do the lime seasoning anymore. I'll have to give Olav's fries a shot now. Prices look good.

P&P is definitely a favorite for me & the wife. Breakfast is quick, hot, and served in a friendly way. As Grape points out - prices are pretty darn good. I like not being super crowded a'la GreenStreet.

Lunchmeats at P&P are Boars Head brand - yum!

Yes, the fries are a guilty pleasure too!

I like how there's often a live show at night on the sidewalk with guitar/harmonica, etc. For being 'off the beaten path' they draw a pretty good crowd of passersby.

Nothing big or fancy - just a good solid place to eat regularly and I'm glad they're part of the neighborhood.
