Remove the traffic light; admit it wasn't right

light
Neighbors in the South Grove are still upset over the traffic light at Ingraham and Douglas. For all these many years there never was a need for the light, now the light is doing more harm than good.

Traffic is backed up at all hours, especially during rush hours, and the drivers are now taking short cuts through the neighborhoods.

I suspect some higher up who lives in that area had the light installed. That usually seems to be the case. Now that person and his neighbors have unwanted traffic caused by drivers taking short cuts through their streets to avoid the long waits at the light (I am told 45 minutes at times to get through the lights).

Someone needs to admit the mistake already and remove the light. Can't anyone ever say they were wrong rather than add to the problem by stubbornly insisting they were right.

They have also blocked off Park Ave., so I suspect the person responsible lives there. That street is nice and quiet. Now, if you are on a bike and traffic is heavy, you cannot cut off onto that street. There's also a bus stop there, but no ADA appropriate path onto Park. Go figure.

Would a traffic circle work better there? I like how coral Gables uses traffic circles to tame traffic--we could definitely use some in the grove (Poinciana street to name one place).
The bus stop/ Park Avenue block off is a cruel joke on all the people who get off the bus and then have to hack their way through the weeds that were planted to get to work on Park Ave.

Residents on El Prado must love all the cut-through traffic they are getting now--i am waiting for the "no turn " sign to go up....

Grape! Admit it? Are you kidding? "Lower your standards and expectations" that is what a business partner was telling me for years about living and doing business in Miami, meeting never are on time, shipments and payments are never on time, the product and service you receive is never what was promised. We live in the first third world administered enclave in the USA, a true Banana Republic, so lower your standard, you will fail if you try to raise theirs.

This has always been a tough intersection with many many accidents and several fatalities. There is no easy solution. Doesn't seem wide enough for a traffic circle.

The installation of a traffic light there is a perfect example of fixing something that wasn't broken.

The density of the neighborhood within the "boundary" of Douglas, Edgewater and Main Highway in no way warranted stopping the flow of traffic on Main. That light exacerbates a problem that clearly didn't exist in the first place.

The length of the green light for Douglas is way too long. That too complicates things even more.

That light was desperately needed.

In the mornings it is a huge help when traveling north on Douglas from Edgewater since rude Miami drivers never let you in. In the afternoons it does get backed up, but I believe that can be fixed by adjusting the length of the light on Main Highway to Douglas.

The turn at the intersection of Douglas and Ingram was extremely dangerous and the light eliminates that problem. If it helps to save lives, they I don't mind dealing with a little bit more traffic.

Reminds me of the absurd traffic light down Mc.Farlane by the lighthouse, or the zig-zag slow-down little area on Tiger tail, freshly painted every couple of months while the rest of Tiger Tail or Bayshore Drive remain a challenging, cross-country all-terrain adventure.

no need to remove the light, just adjust it to fit the traffic flow. This is easy enough to do, and it can even be set to provide for more movement from troublesome directions during rush hour. It's not a zero sum equation, why would we treat it like one.

Damed if you do & damned if you don't. I've lived here since 1965 and at this intersection if I drove a vehicle that slightly hesitated when I accelerated I would not ever try to move thru this intersection as you only had one or two car spaces to make it through before they crashed into you----so I would not chance it here. A light was probably the only option. People have the right to complaint about this dangerous situtation if they had to gamble this twice a day, and people having to wait in backed up traffic also have a right to complaint. Come on folks, say something constructive, make intelligent suggestions in the Grape, lets work together on this one.

They just need to "time" the lights better which takes some planning. The "timing" problem is an issue all over Miami. As for the rude comment that we live in a third world, I would wonder if that person actually ever lived in a third world nation (as there are usually no traffic lanes or lights at all....)

Agreed! A little intelligent civil engineering could get the lights timed better and traffic flowing more smoothly. There's plenty of cities that have more cars moving on less roadspace than ours.

What's different here in Miami? Well, a couple things aside from poor traffic signals. I think the primary problem confounding intersections is red-light runners. Address this and many other traffic problems will go away. Deployed *properly*, red light cameras improve traffic immensely. And they're cheaper than adding lanes, lights, circles, etc.

(I used to drive an old turbo diesel... and there were definitely seconds too many before the turbo kicked in....)

Jobie Steppe, I understand the point you were trying to make about risking a smash-up when crossing onto Douglas from Main with an (older) car that "hesitates"! I bet that most of our neighbors who live over there probably do not own cars that hesitate! That's a nice car neighborhood. :)

I don't think they'll ever open up Park Ave again. People just need to know that if you are heading south you can keep right on red. I don't think a person living on Park Ave had any say on the matter, it was most definitely the City of Miami... Why the hate for Park Ave? Its one of the most beautiful streets in the Grove.

It's spelled Ingraham. I agree they need to remove it or fix the timing. I live a block down from the light on Ingraham Hwy, and the traffic that forms there would give anyone a headache. Whenever I want to go out I waste about 5 minutes just trying to get from the driveway to the street.

That's a light that should have been turned off during Earth Hour and never turned back on!!
