County Mayor Carlos Alvarez backing off stadium deal?
He wants to see what the City Commission does.
He sent a memo today to the County Commission. It is here in PDF format.

Just read the memo and the County Mayor does support the staduim. He did not support the politcal grandstanding done at the City at the last minute instead of the months before. Therefore he will wait to see what the City does before wasting anymore County funding. Tried to make it short but...freedom of speech. I know you do not like the deal but clear reporting is fair.
Boy did Sarnoff shot himself in the foot. He really wanted the Miami Marlins and he could have voted yes, but no he went ahead and voted no thinking it would pass when Spence-Jones returned. Well the deal is dead and whether you wanted the deal or not it is now dead thanks to Sarnoff trying to play politics! I hear that Mayor Diaz has contact Mt. Sinai Hospital for an emergency operation to have Sarnoff's lips removed from his posterior. Alas this Sarnoff is nothing more than a piece of poop! Harry for Commissioner!
Great news. Let the public vote on the issue. The taxpayers don't want the stadium. They are afraid to let it go to a vote because they know it won't pass. Good for Sarnoff and good for Spence Jones if she is standing up for the first time. Maybe Manny didn't promise to fund her campaign if she voted for it after all.
The memo reads like Alvarez supports the idea of a taxpayer funded stadium but does not support the way negotiations are being held. The whole thing is a bad idea. Baseball is not a focus here in Miami. Hell, neither is hockey, basketball, or even pro football. Fans are quick to jump ship when their team falters and there are plenty of other things to do to pass time.
If you ask me, its time to say "see ya later" to the Marlins if they wish to leave. Sorry the fans couldnt support you even though youve won 2 WS championships within the past 10 years. But dont let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.
"It is wrong to exploit the public’s keen interest in baseball in this way."
give us a break!
he is whining because his "deal" is not being shown the respect he thinks it deserves. this is pathetic.
Like Pontius Pilot Carlos Alvarez is publicly washing his hands. If the vote passes he is vindicated and if it fails he is not to be blamed. It’s a perfect political maneuver. It is a moot announcement, because that is exactly what has to take place. MDC has to wait for Miami Commissioners vote first. I am not an expert but I think there are many holes in this deal that will benefit the Marlins and be a major cost to Miami and MDC. I really think that this circus could have been prevented if the citizens of Miami and MDC could have been permitted the right to vote on this project from day one. They were denied that right.
Judge Cohan also had the opportunity to do the right thing and permit the citizens to vote. But once again she did not. The hypocrisy is that both Carlos Alvarez and Manny Diaz keep pitching Transparency to us. But they could have shown real Transparency by allowing us to vote and making the Marlines show their financial statements. I personally hope that this deal collapses because I believe our community has better things to do with that money, especially now that the economy is in worst shape then when this negotiation started.

SPOT ON ! HARRY
Harry for Mayor and/or Commissioner of District 2.
Harry when are you announcing?
Also just saw Spence-Jones on Channel 7 news of course she just woke up and realized she wasn;t getting anything out of it so now it's time for her to say "Hey what about me and what's in it for me". She always only stands up for herself. She's the swing vote and she'll end up voting yes. How much do you think she sold her vote for again?
Harry, Harry, Harry
The bottom line is the deal is incredibly one-sided. The taxpayers are asked to put up probably well over $2 billion and they were never given the chance to vote on the issue because the Marlins knew a voter referundum would kill their scheme 70% to 30%.
The Marlins just want to sell and they have no intention of giving anything to the taxpayers.
What's up with Carlos Alvarez? Is he getting paid by the Marlins?
It is one thing to negotiate and try to get a better deal for your City, but to extort money, like Spence always does, is unconscionable. Remember this woman is up for re-election in Nov.
Are congratulations in order for Miami making the top 10 of Most Miserable Cities in the U.S.?

Voters would turn down this bailout 75% to 25%.
