Committee formed to discuss FPL issues

Local activist Harlene Kennedy, who was up for the empty Village Council seat, against Adam Weirich, seems to have gotten her feet right back into the community by starting a committee (town hall style) to talk about FPL issues like burying powerlines and the new FPL high voltage lines.

Village Council member Alyn Pruett will be part of the committee and they are looking for more members if anyone is interested.

Next Thursday evening, March 26, the committee will attend a town hall meeting hosted by County Commissioner Katy Sorensen on the FPL high voltage issue. The meeting is at the South Dade Government Center 10710 SW 211 St, Cutler Bay (6:30 pm).

For info on the Grove committee, please email me and I'll pass your info on to Harlene. Or you can just attend the next Village Council meeting or meet Harlene at the Cutler Bay meeting.

We on the Village Council are thrilled that Harlene has agreed to take on the FPL power lines. She will need all our help and involvement. This is a huge issue that will have an impact on all of us in the Grove. The utilities claim there is no medical evidence of this, but as a lawyer I am aware there are lots of allegations that living in proximity to high voltage lines like these poses serious health risks. They are also hideously ugly (they will be about twice as high as the Metrorail), and may be damaged in hurricanes much more readily than underground lines. South Miami is trying to force them to put the lines underground, and we should join forces and do the same. Yes it will cost more, but at one time I saw an article that said that the cost is made up for with the savings on hurricane damage over 20 years.

Is anyone stating that a electromagnetic field underground does not emit the same electromagnetic field above ground?
There are numerous formulas to protect life forms from emf from underground transmission lines and they are expensive, very, very expensive.
